Truckoman, a company dedicated to providing total transportation and material handling services, has adopted an aggressive strategy to stay ahead of its competition by using new technology. By end of September 2000, the company will be able to conduct part of its business on line.

"We intend to make land transport management a scientific task by adopting state-of-the-art technologies including e-commerce tools," says David A A Millar, general manager.

"We already promote ourselves as a professional company and we can exhibit our professionalism by making use of new and innovative technologies which will improve the quality of the services we supply our customers. It is basically just a matter of managing assets more efficiently and more effectively in our own and our customers' best interests."

Truckoman has more than 20 years of cargo haulage experience, working for government infrastructure projects, private sector civil engineering projects and oil and gas industry operations. Its vehicle fleet currently comprises over 300 vehicles ranging from light duty people carriers, to heavy-duty oilfield trucks.

Truckoman specialises in moving heavy, out-size cargoes in and around the Middle East and in this respect has teams of experienced professional people with the right equipment to plan and execute cargo moves, mobilisation and demobilisation exercises, customs clearing exercises, border crossings, police escorts, and materials handling/ loading and unloading operations. "Truckoman's mission is to be recognised throughout the region as the cargo haulage contractor of choice, and to this end has committed itself to providing quality services, consistent with the highest applicable international standards," he says.

In addition to operations within Oman, the company currently transports materials to Dammam and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, to Qatar, and to Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE.

"Truckoman provides total transportation facilities tailor-made to meet individual customer's transportation needs. These facilities are managed by a team of highly trained professionals to achieve optimum performance levels in our customers best interests", he says.

The company has two operating divisions, one in Muscat and other in south Oman. The South Oman division specialises in rig moving cargo haulage in support of oil and gas exploration and development activities. It has also set up an office in Salalah recently.

koman enjoys the patronage of more than 45 regular customers.

Millar says business seems to be picking up and there have been some positive signs of growth this year. However, he says the current high oil price has not directly resulted in a resumption of oilfield activity at 1997-98 levels. On the positive side, some new projects are planned to begin later this year and during the first two quarters of next year. "However, there are many hungry transport companies out there," says Millar.
