Excel Coatings Middle East is set to go on stream in Oman soon with a range of innovative and unique products, under the brand name Mauvilac.

Mauvilac was established in Mauritius in 1964 as a pioneer paint manufacturer of the Indian Ocean region. Thirty-six years of hard work, intense focus on professionalism and continuous development, coupled with selective investments in expansion have led Mauvilac from a relatively small paint manufacturer to a player of international standing, says Excel Coatings resident director Alexandre Roland Maurel.

"Our extensive experience, mastered processes and unique technology have enabled Mauvilac to set up paint factories as investor and/or supplier of technology in the French Department of Reunion, the Republic of Seychelles, the Republic of Madagascar, the Republic of South Africa, Kenya and now in the Sultanate of Oman," he says.

Furthermore, the group operates a paint factory, Centron, in New Jersey, US, where highly specialised hi-tech products for the petroleum, industrial flooring and potable water pipe sectors are being developed and supplied to reputable customers such as Boeing Aircraft, Griffin Pipe, M & Mars, Septa, US Post Offices, US Steel, amongst others.

"Excel Coatings offers more than 200 hi-tech product references specially adapted to the harsh climate of the countries in the Indian Ocean rim and the GCC and will introduce unique coatings such as anti-insect paints and heat reflective coatings," says Maurel.

Mauvilac's product range includes:

  • Mauvilac Anti-Insect Paint - a unique paint, non-toxic to human and pets, which eliminates the presence of all crawling and flying insects from homes, schools, hospitals, restaurants, hotels, etc., to provide a safer and more hygienic living environment;

  • Thermoflex - a heat reflective coating which reduces indoor temperature to provide better comfort with the advantage of appreciable electricity consumption savings;

  • Mauvimatch - an instant color matching service which produces the customer's choice of colours on the spot;

  • Wood coatings and furniture lacquers - a complete range of clear and pigmented coatings based on acid curing, nitrocellulose and polyurethane technology is available under the brand name Mauviwood.

  • Automotive refinishing - the brand names Karnamel and Autolac offer a complete package of nitrocellulose and 2K- Urethane products to meet the automotive refinishing requirements;

  • Industrial - the range includes epoxy, chlorinated rubber, polyurethane, modified alkyd, acrylic and bitumen based coatings for added protection and hygiene in mild to highly corrosive environments;

  • Decorative - a wide range of alkyd enamel, acrylic emulsion, auxiliary paints and speciality coatings used in the building industry;

  • Water proofing and damp proofing - specialised acrylic water-based and solventless urethane and bitumen coatings.

    Excel Coatings is also taking over Modern Building Chemicals Company products, among which MBC Isocoat, a liquid water-proofing compound has a proven track record with some major projects executed in Oman. The projects were undertaken for the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Seeb International Airport, Sultan Qaboos Mosque, Sultan Special Forces Building, Sultan Qaboos Port, Oman Aviation, Grand Mosque and various health centres.

    "The production of paints is based on dispersion of pigments and a fine balancing of all the ingredients present in each formulation. For that purpose, Mauvilac has acquired equipments from the best names in the industry with a solid stock of the best raw materials available from the Middle East, Europe, Asia and the US. All the products have been professionally formulated to satisfy the Middle East market and have been thoroughly tested under the most stringent conditions so as to bring the optimum results. A lot of emphasis is on constant quality control of all products along the production line, which is under the supervision of a team of line managers with an accumulated experience of over 100 years" says Maurel.

    The Mauvimatch centre is expected to be the largest paint showroom in Oman, and will be a trend-setter in the paint industry with the retail activities catering to a wide spectrum of applications and discerning clients, in an environment that will be hitherto unknown to the paint buyer, he adds.

    "Initially 70 per cent of the production at the Oman plant will be distributed locally and the balance exported to other GCC countries. In the near future, we also plan to expand into new markets including the northern African countries," says the company's technical and sales manager Mark Thorpe.

    "Mauvilac is bringing much more than quality paints to Oman. The introduction of the intelligent paint solutions with anti-insect paints and Thermoflex heat reflective coatings have already evoked a great response from the market. Mauvilac is now looking at consolidating the dealer network in Oman and the region and promises a rewarding business opportunity to people involved in its growth," says Thorpe.
