Elevator display specialist E-Motive supplied custom-designed displays and a lift monitoring system to the acclaims new Al Faisaliah building in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. E-Motive's contribution played an integral part in the installation, which won Elevator World magazine's 'Elevator Project of the Year' award in 2002," the company said.

Designed by Sir Norman Foster, the Al Faisaliah building stands at 267m (876ft) and has become an instant icon in the city.

Twenty-two of the building's elevators were fitted with E-Motive's customised FS1040 full colour LCD position indicators. These feature high resolution displays showing elevator position, direction, date and time, as well as floor directories and different company logos for each floor. The units are programmable to display a wide range of messages, from weather forecasts and special greetings to forthcoming events. Real time messages, such as news flashes or public warnings, can also be relayed from a remote PC through an RS485 serial interface.

E-Motive also supplied a state-of-the-art Lift Monitoring System for all of the 48 elevators, 20 escalators and four dumb waiters in the building. The monitoring system records traffic flow and the current status of all the units, and different options in each elevator can be switched on or off and can be modified from a control terminal. The monitoring system also has the special option of analysis, allowing the performance of each elevator to be obtained in the form of graphic analysis, change in status, landing call response time and details of landing call.

"We are honoured to have been chosen to supply elevator displays and monitors to this prestigious development," commented Steven Black, E-Motive's managing director. "The selection criteria were extremely rigorous, particularly as the Al Faisaliah building was the showcase project of the King Faisal Foundation." The total value of the project was $100,000.

With offices in Singapore and the United States, E-Motive is a recognised industry leader in elevator display technology. It has a successful track record of installations in numerous commercial, industrial, government, residential and private buildings worldwide, of which the AI Faisaliah building is the latest example.
