
Solar panels installed in Doha
THE first photovoltaic solar panels have been installed in the first phase of the QR20 billion ($5.4 billion) Msheireb Downtown Doha project by Innovations Unlimited ME.
The installation reflects Msheireb Properties’ ongoing commitment to sustainable development in line with Qatar’s National Vision for 2030, the company said.
The roof-mounted photovoltaic modules will supply a portion of the electricity needs of the buildings within Phase 1 of the landmark development.
Car imports up 33pc
SAUDI Arabia imported 982,000 cars of various brands in 2012, up 33 per cent from the 737,000 imported in the preceding year, according to the Saudi Central Statistics Department (CSD).
The total value of vehicle imports reached SR76.6 billion ($20.4 billion) last year, an increase of 42 per cent over 2011. The US topped the list of car exporters to the kingdom for the second consecutive year, replacing Japan, which was the number one exporter until 2011.
Lumiglass gets CE mark
LUMIGLASS Industries LLC, a component of Glass LLC, which is a leading processors of laminated safety glass in the Middle East and a subsidiary of Dubai Investments PJSC, has announced that it has received the European CE Mark certification – the regulatory approval for competing in the European market.
The CE Mark and label certification, in accordance with EN 14449-2, validates the company’s strategic direction and its commitment to the production of building-laminated and safety glass to the highest manufacturing standards.
Gammon to build city
INDIAN conglomerate Gammon Group has announced it has started construction work on a SR10.9 billion ($2.9 billion) mega city in Saudi Arabia that includes a modern medical city and hospital, a petrochemical plant and residential villas.
The project, encompassing an area of 20 million sq m in Rabigh, will be completed in nine years, said Mohammed Rafik, chairman of the group.
