Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) signed five new contracts for power and water projects during Wetex, the water, energy and environment exhibition.
The first contract entails among other things the construction of Al Ghafat Reservoirs Phase 1 and 2 with capacity of 120 million imperial gallons (mig) and a total cost of Dh285 million ($77.5 million). The contractor is Pratibha Industries Ltd.
The second contract was signed with Apina, Spain, for constructing and installing an inlet air chilling system for gas turbines at L Station, Phase I, Jebel Ali. The project will generate additional power of approximate 108 MW from three gas turbines from L Station at the peak of the summer season and improve turbines efficiency.
The third contract includes the laying of 132 KV cables across a length of 230 km at a cost of Dh100 million. The contractor of the project is Emirates Electrical Engineering LLC.
The fourth contract was signed with Siemens LLC. It includes the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of five reactor stations at generating units with 400 KV OHL at a cost up to Dh372 million.
The fifth contract also went to Siemens and it relates to the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a Scada/EMS/DTS system for transmission control centres. The value of the contract is Dh97 million.
The contracts were signed by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer managing director and CEO of Dewa. The contracts, he said, would support Dubai’s infrastructure and boost the efficiency of grids and networks to meet the growth of demand for Dewa’s services.
Al Tayer told the contractors that Dewa would provide them all possible facilities to ensure the projects were properly executed in compliance with environmental standards.
