The NDB-3 building which also houses NDB-4
Gulf Stabilizers Industries (GSI), a chemical manufacturer and blender-preparer of antioxidants and polymer additives, will complete next year its latest non-dust blends (NDB) unit at Jubail Industrial City, taking overall NDB capacity to 16,000 tonnes annually.
The latest expansion adds 6,000 tonnes per year and constitutes the fourth phase (NDB-4).
Non-dust blends are physical mixtures of stabilisers and other components, providing a full package in one blend.
Further expansion expected
“GSI intends to make further moves to expand its capability to meet regional customers’ requirements of polymer additives by virtue of local manufacturing capabilities with a wider range of physical forms,” a GSI spokesman said.
“We successfully expanded the Jubail facility in March with the NDB-3 production line but we now needed to invest in further capacity to keep ahead of the growing demand for our products in the region,” said Fahad Al Zamil, director of Al Zamil and GSI vice chairman.
Technical Sources Contracting Company was contracted for the expansion work. The NDB-4 production is housed in the same building as NDB-3.
Gulf Stabilizers is a joint venture between Chemtura Corporation, a US-based company, and Al Zamil Group Holding Company of Saudi Arabia which has interests in the industrial, petrochemicals and services sectors.
The expansion will deploy Chemtra’s proprietary NDB technology producing a one-pack product that provides customers with both efficiency and safety over the use of single-powder components, GSI said.
Peter Smith, general manager of Chemtura’s antioxidant and UV stabiliser operations worldwide and GSI chairman, said: “This expansion is part of our new global strategy and will support our customers’ growth with the supply of unique and cost-advantaged products in countries worldwide.”
GSI is the only local manufacturer of antioxidants in the GCC, Middle East and North Africa with production focused on the following primary (phenolic) and secondary (phosphite) antioxidants in powder form: Annox 20, Alkanox 240 and Anox PP 18.
