A show that will spotlight Sharjah emirate’s industrial contribution to the UAE is expected to attract 200 exhibition stands and thousands of visitors.

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) highlighted that Sharjah had some 1,454 registered industrial establishments with Dh81 billion ($22.05 billion) worth of investments and a workforce of 82,000. The SCCI is hosting the Made in Sharjah show from November 21 to November 25 at the Sharjah Expo Centre.

The event, organised in collaboration with Sharjah Expo Centre, targets the participation of the emirate’s industrial establishments, current and previous winners of the Sharjah Economic Excellence Award (SEEA) and SCCI members whose products and services are currently on display at a permanent exhibition of local products at the chamber’s headquarters.

“The exhibition will provide participants an opportunity to showcase and market their products to key suppliers and traders from local and regional markets and also meet directly with different UAE consumers,” the chamber said in a statement.

SCCI chairman Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa stressed the importance of supporting the country’s industrial sector to increase exports and bolster development in Sharjah and the rest of the UAE. He commended the private sector saying it had helped make the UAE in general and Sharjah in particular an ideal investment destination in the Middle East region.

Strong support from leaders
Al Midfa also said the national industrial sector had progressed much from the strong support of UAE president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.

“Under his guidance, the number of industrial establishments in the UAE has reached 4,640, giving employment opportunities to more than 347,000 people. This success is equally shared by the emirate of Sharjah, which is being looked at as the country’s model for the industrial sector,” Al Midfa said.

“Ably guided by the vision and support of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the emirate has become a favoured investment destination for investors looking for a strategic and ideal venue for their businesses.

“Moreover, the Made in Sharjah Show is part of the SCCI’s commitment to provide local businesses with a platform where they can promote their products and services-stirring more economic activity and helping double the rate of contribution to the country’s GDP.”

As well as Sharjah-based businesses, the exhibition will feature small and medium enterprises from other parts of the UAE.

The event will also draw attention to the new ‘Made in Sharjah’ slogan, which SCCI said was a branding initiative to help promote the quality of local products and their competitive prices as well as strengthening  business ties between producers, local exporters and importers from other countries.

As well as the exhibition, the initiative includes the Made in Sharjah trademark. The initiative also features a short video documentary, a monthly electronic newsletter, a special section on commercial.com, the exports good directory, a standardised specification programme and a series of training and rehabilitation programmes – all linked to the Made in Sharjah slogan.
