Norah buys stake in Kandil Glass

Kuwait-based investment firm North Africa Holding Company (Norah) said it has acquired a 50 per cent stake in Kandil Glass, one of Egypt’s leading manufacturers of glass containers, in line with its regional expansion plans.

The investment, which will allow Kandil Glass to finance the construction of a new production facility, is Norah’s first investment in Egypt, said Emad Al Saleh, Norah chief executive officer.

Kandil Glass currently has a production capacity of 55 tonnes per day. It is undergoing a major expansion in order to raise it to over 300 tonnes per day.

EVG ships equipment to Kaust

EV Group (EVG), a leading supplier of wafer bonding and lithography equipment for the MEMS, nanotechnology and semiconductor markets, has announced it has shipped an EVG520IS semi-automated wafer bonding system and two EVG6200 automated alignment systems to King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Kaust) in Saudi Arabia. Students at the graduate-level institution will use the EVG equipment for advanced technology research and development, including projects outsourced to Kaust from technology firms in the region.

Dubal wins suggestion prizes

Dubai Aluminium Company (Dubal) won the Team Idea of the Year and Green Idea of the Year titles in the 68th edition of the USA Employee Involvement Association (EIA) competition.

The EIA is an internationally recognised organisation serving professional managers and administrators of employee involvement and suggestion programmes.

Participating in the competition were Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Honda of America, the US Army and Commercial Bank AG, among others.

The suggestion titled 'Environment friendly fume duct damper maintenance' submitted by Satheesh, Robert Sotaso and Ajeeth, won the Green Idea of the Year award. The suggestion titled 'Fabricate efficient multiple use table pre-heater' submitted by Sadiq Basha, Rao and Abdulla Asi won the Team Idea award.

DHP relocates to Jebel Ali

Aberdeen-based Downhole Products (DHP), a leader in technologically-advanced oilfield tools, has moved its regional hub to Jebel Ali.

The total storage space at the new facility is 2,000 sq m and the office space 60 sq m.

Martin Pirie heads the DHP Operation and has been joined by two recently-appointed colleagues to the Middle East team.
