Specialist fabrication company Hidada of Jeddah is involved in one of the world’s greatest projects – the creation of a smelter at Emirates Aluminium (Emal) in Abu Dhabi emirate that will eventually produce 1.4 million tonnes of primary aluminium per year.
Hidada has been contracted to fabricate and erect 32,000 tonnes of structural steel for Emal in the emirate’s Taweelah area.
“By size and value this is the largest contract Hidada has ever received in its history,” said the company’s marketing manager Omar Fetini.
“We won amidst stiff competition from other leading players, demonstrating the faith the customer has in our capabilities in executing such large projects in time and with quality.”
As well as Emal, Hidada is working on several projects including Saudi Electricity Company’s (SEC) Shoaiba Power Plant-Stage 3 for which Hidada will supply 7,000 tonnes of product.
Other ongoing projects linked to Hidada are the Mesaieed independent power project in Qatar (10,600 tonnes), tanks for the Rabigh power plant expansion (10,200 tonnes), SEC’s 380 kV Qassim to Madinah Towers transmission line (20,000 tonnes), SEC West 380 kV Jeddah North Towers (7,600 tonnes) and Gecol, Libya, 400 kV Wadi Rabie-Elrwais Towers (11,000 tonnes).
The company was established in 1982 as a subsidiary of Xenel Industries, one of the oldest business houses of Saudi Arabia. The company’s total annual capacity is around 200,000 tonnes of which structural steel alone accounts for half that. Hidada’s facilities include environment-friendly blasting, painting and galvanising.
A new galvanisation facility will be commissioned by October taking galvanising capacity to 150,000 tonnes.
Services that the company offers include designing, detailed engineering, materials procurement, fabrication, surface treatment and delivery to site.
