Aheena and Al Wasit officials pose near Sumitomo excavators

Al Wasit Machinery, dealer of Sumitomo Construction Equipment, recently secured a major deal from Atheena SA, the construction giant from Greece, to supply excavators.

As part of the order, an initial consignment of nine excavators of different capacities was delivered to Atheena including three units of SH 800LHD (81 tonnes) at the top of the range and two units of the 20-tonne SH 210-5 (winner of two quality awards in Japan in 2007-08) at the lower end.
Handing over the machines to Atheena’s regional manager Nikos Paparodopaulos, Al Wasit managing director, Mohamed Abdul Qader praised their choice of Sumitomo excavators for the high precision of these machines, their reliability and capacity to work safely under arduous conditions. “We were also happy to be able to offer prompt delivery of the machines, now deployed at their various projects in the Northern Emirates”, he said.
Sumitomo excavators are manufactured at the Chiba works in Japan, which is a facility designed to produce the world’s finest, high-precision and high-quality excavators.
The new Sumitomo ‘Dash 5’ series is a well-packaged excavator featuring a ‘Tier 3’ engine, with a stronger boom and arms, improved undercarriage components for longer wear life, a larger fuel tank, improved safety features and a re-designed cabin for greater operator comfort. Integration of the new engine system ‘Space 5’ and the new hydraulic system ‘SIH:S’ makes these models up to 20 per cent more fuel efficient compared to conventional models.
“SH210-5 was introduced to the Gulf region at the Conmex and Big5 PMV exhibitions held last November and has been well-accepted in the market as is evident from the high demand experienced since then,” Al Wasit said.
The Sharjah-headquartered dealer is one of the leading suppliers of construction equipment and related services in the region and represents world-renowned manufacturers to offer a wide range of equipment for earthmoving, road construction, concrete and asphalt plants, materials handling and transportation as well as work tools and attachments. The company provides pre-sales assistance and product support services to its customers throughout the region.
Al Wasit Machinery is a member of the Al Wasit Group which was set up by visionary UAE businessman Abdul Qader Ahmed Mohammed, a qualified mechanical engineer. His mission of providing value-added support to the construction industry in the entire Middle East is carried out at present by a team consisting of over 80 qualified professionals who are led from the front by Abdul Qader himself.
Atheena SA has been associated with a number of construction projects in the UAE since 1976 when it was involved with the building of the Sharjah sea port. Though engaged in various construction activities such as rail roads, tunnels, roads, buildings, industrial projects and electrical and mechanical projects, Atheena is more associated with marine projects in the UAE. Currently it is involved in several projects including the Ras Al Khaimah port expansion and land reclamation at the Al Reem project (Abu Dhabi).
“With quality as the foremost policy at Atheena, it is no wonder it chose Sumitomo excavators for its recent projects in the UAE,” Al Wasit said.
