Sharjah-based Gulf Dynamic Switchgear (GDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of M’sharie, the private equity arm of Dubai Investments, has over the past 25 years been involved with several prestigious projects in the UAE.
It recently secured a major contract worth Dh8 million ($2.17 million) to supply low voltage switchboards and AC distribution boards for Phase 1 of the Red Line of the world-acclaimed Dubai Metro Project.
The company will also supervise the testing and commissioning of the panel boards supplied to the project. These boards will be used at various stations and depots of the Dubai Metro project.
Established in 1981, GDS designs and manufactures a comprehensive range of specialised electrical products that are used throughout the Middle East in the government and private sectors. A recipient of many industry awards, GDS has completed many prominent projects, including Al Awir Sewerage Treatment Plant Extension – Dubai Municipality, Al Raha Beach Resort, Jumeirah Beach Residence, the head offices for National Bank of Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Rose Rotana Tower, Al Hamra Village and Textile City in Al Aweer.
“While these mainly comprised governmental, residential, commercial and industrial projects, this is the first time we are working on a transport-related project,” said August Schmid, general manager, Gulf Dynamic Switchgear, referring to the Dubai Metro.
“GDS has worked hard to build its reputation as an organisation that provides top-class offerings and superb customer support. To this end we have made considerable investments in cutting-edge technology and the right resources. “We are excited to be a part of the Dubai Metro project and look forward to being able to offer our expertise to other pioneering projects in the UAE and Gulf region, in the years to come,” Schmid added.
GDS launched an expansion programme in early 2006 with investments in new production lines and larger premises in Sharjah. The expansion increased the company’s production capacity by 200 per cent, helping GDS make strong headway in domestic and international markets of main distribution boards, sub-main distribution boards, motor control centres, feeder pillars and street lighting panels, synchronising panels, and other custom-designed panels.
As well as manufacturing low voltage switchgear, GDS is involved in the marketing of decorative light systems. A recipient of several industry awards, the company was formed by a group of European companies and a local partnership.
GDS supplies its panels to markets in the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia including Qatar, Sudan and Azerbaijan. A technology partner of Mitsubishi, Japan, the company has also been awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certification by BVQI and the type test certification from ASTA and LOVAG. It has a workforce of more than 75.
