Geyad products are marked by strict quality assurance

Fabrication specialist Geyad for Commerce and Import Company has come a long way since the time it was established in 1980 as a small plant.

The company began operations in a small fabrication yard in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. Geyad has grown since then and has become one of the leading steel fabricators in the province.
In 1994 it launched its second fabrication plant under the name of Geyad Factory for Pressure Vessels and Steel Buildings in Dammam’s Second Industrial City following a growth in the structural steel industry.
“In a very short time, Geyad has developed strong ties with a number of reputed clients by delivering excellent quality products at competitive prices,” says a company statement. “Geyad’s strict policy of meeting customers’ delivery target dates has also contributed a great deal to the present success of the company.”
Geyad is now developing a third fabrication facility which is coming up in Dammam’s Second Industrial City. The company has announced it recently acquired another plot to launch its fourth plant.
The company is registered with SGS Yarsley International Certification Services Limited for ISO 9002. It has obtained prestigious certificates of authorisation as well as ‘U’ and ‘UM’ stamps from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Additionally, Geyad is a holder of ‘R’ and ‘NB’ stamps from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI.).
Manufacturing processes include plate rolling up to 25 mm thick and 2.5 m wide; machining operations; plasma cutting; oxyacetylene cutting; arc welding; MIG welding; TIG welding; SAW welding; hydraulic pressing up to 200 tonnes; drilling/reboring up to 76 mm diameter; plate shearing up to 16 mm thickness; angle bars, flat bars and round bars; cropping and punching; radial drilling and blasting and painting.
Geyad’s product portfolio falls into five principal categories, namely structural steel, pressure vessels, storage tanks, pipe spools and miscellaneous steel items.
It renders support services in hot-dip galvanising of materials, internal cement lining and fusion-bonded epoxy coating of pipes.
Geyad provides a comprehensive design and detailing facility for steel structures, tanks and pressure vessels, both computerised and manual. It operates strict quality assurance and quality control procedures for its manufacturing processes that include the Quality Management System (QMS) internal audits which are carried out by certified external and internal auditors. These auditors are qualified in accordance with the rules of the International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA).
The procedures also include welding Inspection and other related works which are conducted by Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI). These inspectors are qualified by the American Welding Society (AWS).
Geyad also conducts in-house non-destructive tests such as the Ultrasonic Test (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) and Penetrant Test (PT) which are performed by certified Level – II inspectors. These inspectors are qualified in accordance with the guidance of the American Society for Non-Destructive Testing (ASNT).
Al-Nasser Industrial Enterprises of the UAE joined Geyad as partners in 1999. It is part of Al-Nasser Holding Group which was established in 1992 and has seven operating ventures in steel melting, PE rotomoulding, SMC panel steel rolling, oil spill absorbents, pet bottles and transformers.
Al Nasser Group holds a 50 per cent stake in Geyad while Abdullah Hussaini and Abdul Aziz Al Botain each hold 25 per cent of the stake.
In 2006 Geyad reported that its local sales amounted to $20 million with exports contributing $2 million.
“The special feature of 2006 was the explosive increase in construction activity in the region due to surplus budgets and this facilitated the implementation of backward and forward integration projects,” a company spokesman said.
“The trend is seen to continue through 2007 due to the buoyant oil market. This trend may continue for another three to four years at least or until the present signed off projects go on stream. The region has mega projects signed off and demand is fast outstripping supply in all aspects of EPC. This has created an upward movement in the prices of connected services as well as a scarcity of resources of all types.”
The spokesman believes the demand-supply gap will widen during this year “till services which have been caught unawares in the boom girdle up with resources addition.” He added that the resources addition did have an inbuilt delay period due to availability as well as cost.
Geyad exports to the GCC states with Qatar and Bahrain being the main markets. “Marketing is purely based on reputation, website contacts and previous clients implementing new projects in new regions. The strength of the companies of the partner group is also used for contacting clients in various regions. The notable achievement has been supplies for mega projects in Qatar against stiff international competition.”
Among its clients are Snamprogetti, Al Oasis Contracting, Alsa Technical Supplies, Saudi Aramco, JGC Corporation, Gulf Chemical Industries, Gulf Elite General Contracting and MS Al Suwaidi.
The company has been involved with several major projects including Hawiyah, Khursaniyah and Amar Gold Mine in Saudi Arabia, Adwea-Shubaisi (UAE) and Dolphin (Qatar and the UAE).
