For over 20 years Dresser Al-Rushaid Valve & Instrument Co Ltd (Darvico) of Jubail Industrial City has manufactured and supplied valves and process instruments that are considered the benchmark for products of their kind and useful adjuncts to process industries.

Incorporated in 1985 under a joint venture agreement between Al Rushaid Investment Co Ltd and Dresser Industries Inc (USA), Darvico has the capacity to produce and test more than 10,000 safety relief valves, 3,000 control valves and 45,000 pressure gauges.  The company has an integrated system that can track each and every customer order till it is shipped.
Darvico, whose turnover exceeds SR100 million ($26 million) , has been associated with the leading names in Saudi industry and some of the ongoing projects it is associated with are the Khursaniyah Gas Plant, Hawiyah, Juaymaj, Khurais, Yansab and Jana. Among its main customers in Saudi Arabia are Saudi Aramco, Sabic, Sceco, SWCC, Samref and Luberef and it has done business with major global contractors such as Bechtel, Technip, Snamprogetti, SNC Lavalin, Fluor, Toyo and Stone & Webster.
Under a new marketing policy, Darvico is encouraging local vendors to deal with project orders, a move it believes will promote the development of the Saudi economy.
Production is carried out in two dust-proof factory sheds, each of area 2,250 sq m. “Strict  conformity to Dresser’s manufacturing and quality assurance procedures ensures that all products made by Darvico have the same field performance as those made in Dresser plants in the US and worldwide,” said general manager DR Pai. “Care and attention are given to every product from inception to final assembly. The end result: a thorough engineered product that is precise, dependable and durable in the extreme climatic conditions prevailing in Saudi Arabia and the Arab Gulf states.”
Darvico’s manufacturing ranges come under the Masoneilan, Consolidated and Ashcroft brands.
The Masoneilan products it makes include general and severe service control valves, pressure regulators, level transmitters and smart positioners. The Consolidated products it manufactures are safety and relief valves while under the Ashcroft range it makes pressure gauges, temperature-measuring instruments and differential pressure switches.
“More than 100 people are employed with Darvico and all our technicians are trained and certified by Dresser’s training manager. We are proud to have a 45 per cent Saudisation of the workforce,” said Pai. As well as the production facilities in Jubail, the company operates a repair centre at Yanbu to overhaul control valves and safety relief valves.
“Our shops have been audited and approved by the National Boiler Board of the US and we have the ASME certificate of authorisation for stamping our safety relief valves with the UV and NB stamps,” said Pai.
“We hold the VR stamp for valve repair. Darvico is a Masoneilan-authorised repair centre (Marc) for control valves, regulators and level instruments.
“Our quality system has been audited and approved by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Ltd and we have been certified to ISO9001-2000. Our pressure and temperature switches are UL listed and are certified by Underwriters Laboratories and the European Cenelac Standards as explosion-proof and suitable for installation in hazardous locations.
As well as marketing the products it manufactures in Jubail, Darvico markets several other items it imports from Dresser under the Masoneilan, Consolidated, Ashcroft and Heise brands.

An improvement on Masoneilan’s highly successful SVI, the SVI II Digital Valve Positioner and PID Process Controller communicate locally with pushbuttons or remotely via HART-registered hand-held device or with graphical display from a PC using ValVue. The FVP (Fieldbus Valve Positioner) offers highly advanced control technology for pneumatically actuated valves, providing higher precision and greater flexibility. Heise
