Jeddah Cable Company (JCC) presented a strong sales turnover in 2006 with a 55 per cent increase over the previous year.
Company figures showed that sales in 2006 were SR1.5 billion ($399 million) against SR965 million in 2005.
JCC products include control, insulation and speciality cables, oil and gas cables and LV/MV/HV/EHV cables as well as overhead lines and indoor wires. The company also has production facilities for raw materials such as PVC compounds, copper rods casting and wooden cable reels and pallets.
The medium voltage cables are rated for up to 36 kV, use copper or aluminium as conductor and come in sizes of up to 3 x 300 sq mm or 1 x 630 sq mm. The insulation is in XLPE, screening in copper tape or copper wires, armouring in galvanised steel tape or galvanised steel wires and sheathing in PVC or polyethylene.
The low voltage cables are rated for 0.6/1 kV with copper or aluminium as conductor and come in sizes up to 4 x 300 sq mm or 1 x 1,000 sq mm. Insulation is in PVC, XLPE or polyethylene with armouring in galvanised steel tape or galvanised steel wires and sheathing in PVC or PE.
Overhead lines come in all-aluminium conductors, all-aluminium conductors with steel reinforcement (soft and hard); drawn copper conductors and weather-proof service drop copper or aluminium cables.
The indoor wires have a rated voltage of up to 450/750 volt, use copper as conductor and have sizes up to 240 sq mm flexible and up to 500 sq mm standard while insulation is in PVC.
JCC, which has the ISO 9002 certification, has gained approvals from a host of authorities including Underwriters Laboratories Inc, Saudi Arabian Standards Organisation, Saudi Consolidated Electric Company and Saudi Aramco.
Approvals have also come from the Water and Electricity Department of the Government of Abu Dhabi, Transpor-tation and Roads Improvement Project, Abu Dhabi, and the ministries of electricity and water of Qatar, the UAE and Oman.
The company’s finished cables conform to the IEC standard publication, UL standard for safety, AEIC CS5-87 specifications (5 kV to 35 kV), ASTM, VDI, BSI and NEMA.
“Our MV/HV plant is equipped with the latest CV line technology as well as a recently commissioned HV lab,” a company spokesman said. “The high-tech equipment uses triple XLPE extruders to meet all the requirements of MV/HV/EHV cable insulation extrusion. The operator has the power to influence the process through an Autocure line control programme that monitors temperature, synchronisation, sequence control and ramp ups and downs through accurate feedback.”
JCC said it supplied many important projects in Saudi Arabia but did not specify which ones.
The company exports its products to the GCC states and Egypt.
It was founded in 1988 as a subsidiary of Elsewedy Group International, which was established in the late 1940s in Egypt. JCC is the manufacturing arm of El Sewedy Establishment (ESE), which began its electrical distribution business during the early 1960s in Saudi Arabia.
“As a pioneer in the development of cable products, we are prominent in the voice and data, communications, electronic, industrial, building construction, HVAC, automotive and government market segments,” the spokesman said.
