Established in 1997 as a local steel manufacturing company, Mammut Building Systems is today one of the largest pre-engineered steel building manufacturers in the region.
The main factory spread over 25,000 sq m located at the Hamriyah Free Zone, Sharjah, caters to the needs of the UAE market as well as 15 other countries.
In order to meet the needs of the market, the company, which a year ago increased its production capacity to 7,500 tonnes per month, is going for another capacity expansion. To cope with the rapid growth of the market share throughout the Gulf region and further expansion of these markets coupled with increasing exports to Africa and Asia, the company is increasing its production capacity by the end of this year (2007), says the company. Plans have been put in place, installation of new equipment and increases in covered space for manufacturing will take the company’s capacity up to 10,000 tonnes per month by the end of year 2007.
Realising the importance of Abu Dhabi, Mammut Group established its local company Mammut Building Systems Abu Dhabi, in order to provide quick services through its local sales and estimation team in the emirate.
“The UAE market in general, and Abu Dhabi in particular has always been one of the attractive markets for all companies and Mammut is no different,” says Christian Outayek, general manager, Mammut Abu Dhabi.
“We have been present on the Abu Dhabi market for over four years and have seen a double-digit increase in our market share”, he says. “This has been achieved through the dedication of our Abu Dhabi staff and support of Mammut HFZ.” The company also attributed its success to the loyal customers of Abu Dhabi, who return to the company for their new projects.
Mammut Building Systems Abu Dhabi provides its customers not only solutions for their pre-engineered steel buildings, but also solutions for their concrete projects with the help of Mammut Technocrete, another company of Mammut Group, that specialises in the production of pre-cast concrete panels, slabs, claddings, beams, columns, staircases and boundary walls.
“Our plan at Mammut Abu Dhabi is to be the preferred partners of steel and precast building users and their consultant, as well as contractors in Abu Dhabi” says Outayek. “The high level of activities being witnessed in the emirates in general and Mussafah in particular, encourages us to expand and offer different products under one umbrella, the Mammut umbrella,” he adds.
Mammut’s current capacity of 7,500 tonnes per month allows the company to handle all types of projects ranging from simple high-tech warehouses and showrooms to factories. Some of its major local and international customers include the EMKE group, Al Ghurair, Ali & Sons, Danielli and Dodsal to name a few. The company has worked with both the private sector as well as the government sector, for example with the Department of Military Works and Adnoc and its subsidiaries.”
Its growth in Abu Dhabi is due to several factors, the main ones being the increase in the number of industrial projects. Mussafah is considered to be the main industrial area as it occupies a strategic location – it is only 30-40 km from both the airport and the seaport of Abu Dhabi, and is also able to cater to all types of projects.
Its major projects in the Mussafah area are: Al Ghurair Iron and Steel Factory, a 4,500-tonne project; National Cement Factory, a 10,000 sq m project, and the EMKE group stores, an 85,000 sq m facility, in addition to others.
Mussafah industrial area comprises six zones, each for different sectors, which make it attractive to investors, who also benefit from other facilities located in the industrial area for issuing industrial licences, registration, supervision and execution of projects.
“We expect more projects to be built in the Mussafah area and for that reason we are planning to expand our office in order to cope with the demand. We are also expanding our erection team in order to handle more than 10 projects at a time,” said Outayek. “The mission is clear. We do not want to be number one; we want to be the preferred choice for our customers.”
