Klein, a manufacturer of electromechanical equipment in sewage treatment plants, is establishing a service team for the Middle East, the company reported.
The German company, which took part in the Jeddah Water and Power Forum last month (November) as delegate and exhibitor, says it sees a big demand in Saudi Arabia for the equipment it specialises in as the existing equipment is neither sufficient in quantity nor in quality. It believes that most of the existing STPs need upgrading.
“Some general, severe problems such as sludge dumping have to be solved urgently. As a manufacturer of electromechanical equipment we see a good chance for us to get a fair market-share,” says Michael Gamroth, Klein Abwasser- und Schlammtechnik GmbH Germany. “Also in the other countries of the GCC we are tracking several projects.”
Gamroth added that the new service team would help Klein clients run the company’s installed equipment without problems and enable its sales department to obtain new customers. The team would grow according to the growth of market-share in the ME region.
Klein has its production facilities in Germany and exports its products worldwide. The company has four sewage treatment plants in Saudi Arabia equipped with belt filter presses and dryers made by Klein in Germany and which can produce a dry granulate material which easily can be incinerated.
“A sewage sludge incineration plant is the ideal supplement for each drying plant,” the spokesman says. “ It reduces the mass of every tonne of dewatered sewage sludge to 50 kg of ash. The waste gases of the incineration process are carefully cleaned in order to meet the strict regulations of the European law.
Klein is providing for the incineration of sewage sludge a simple but very safe process technology.”
Klein is a medium-sized company following a tradition that goes back to the year 1905. With longstanding experience with the processing of domestic or industrial sludge, the company is able to offer reasonable technical solutions for its clients worldwide. It mainly specialises in sludge processing equipment, with a focus on sludge drying and incineration. The know-how in the field of processing and drying of sludges, waste material and recyclable material is essential to respond to its clients’ requirements and to work out tailor-made solutions for the respective applications. To achieve customer satisfaction the company focuses on competent planning and reliable and high-quality products.
The main field of activity is the thickening, dewatering and drying of sludges for multiple applications. To prepare the sludges and suspensions for liquid separation and subsequent dewatering drying agents must be used.
The Klein belt filter press type SNP is a continuously operating dewatering unit. The material or sludge to be processed is led through the machine between two sieve belts and passes 12 (up to 14) press rollers, decreasing in diameter, and thus producing an increasing pressure. For the dewatering of suspensions with a low dry solids concentration the belt filter press SNP can be extended by a belt thickener, which is installed on top of it. The belt filter press SNP - as well as all other technical solutions offered by Klein - is designed for a low-noise and low-wear fully automatic operation mode.
The compact low-temperature drying is a consequent advancement of the product line. The main feature of the process is a drastic reduction of the sludge volume that can then be used as fuel in industrial processes. With the drying process the sludge achieves a heating value, which is comparable to brown coal, and thus it can be disposed of economically.
The clout of the system is the environmentally compatible energy input. Conventional drying systems work with primary energy or steam, whereas the Pro-Dry can be fed with waste heat. Even simple waste heat sources, eg warm water from block heat and power plants, waste air from production halls or water vapour from industrial processes, can be used as energy sources for the drying process. Alternatively, waste heat from natural gas-, biogas- or fuel oil burners can be used. During the past few years Klein has become the market leader in the field of sludge drying by using such energy sources in a highly efficient way.
Furthermore the dryer conforms to all legal requirements for explosion protection, air pollution, odour and noise emission. The compact and modular design of the drying system - according to the company philosophy exclusively “Made in Germany” - is tailor-made and adapted to the specific parameters, and can also be integrated in existing machine halls.
“The idea of ‘full service’ is an integral part of the company’s philosophy,” says the spokesman. “Klein provides a professional and comprehensive maintenance and service. The departments for sales, projecting, technique and service are linked together in close contact. Therefore the company is able to react to customers’ requirements in a quick and competent way. As a consequence of this also in Saudi Arabia a Klein service team for O&M contracts for STPs is available.”
