Reem Batteries has become the largest dry charged battery manufacturing company in the Middle East having produced more than 1.4 million units last year.
Established in 1991 in technical collaboration with US-based Johnson Controls Battery Group, the powerful backing of this world leader has benefited Reem Batteries by the application of “cutting-edge” technology for all of its products.
“We are the only battery manufacturing company in West Asia with ISO 9001:2000 certification testifying to its independent design capability and customer focus,” says chief executive officer Srinivas Gopalan. “We have also been certified under ISO 14001:2004 for conforming to the International Standards for Environmental Management and under OHSAS 18001:1999 certification for adhering to the requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Administration Services.”
Exports during 2005 comprised more than 90 per cent of the company’s sales volume, and Gopalan expects to surpass this percentage figure in 2006.
Reem Batteries continues to score national and international accolades and was again awarded “His Majesty’s Trophy” in 2005 for being one of the best industrial companies in Oman.
“Our product range includes 180 types of batteries from 26 Ah to 230 Ah catering to Japanese, European, Korean and American vehicles,” he continues. “We market our batteries under six brand names: Antara, Antara Gold, Powerpack/Gulfstar, Gulfracer, and Charger, in addition to a host of private labels.”
Reem Batteries units, which are now available in 48 countries, undergo 66 tests during its manufacturing process. Gopalan says Reem Batteries units are custom designed to meet the requirements of specific markets. For example, Antara, which is sold in the Gulf, is designed for extreme heat and harsh conditions; Gulfstar, which is sold in Europe, is designed for a cold and temperate climate.
