PWC Logistics will provide multi-modal transport solutions to its customers in Jordan and the region by adding a sea-air link to its already existing land-land and sea-land transportation solutions.
This follows a contract its affiliated company National Aviation Services (NAS) of Kuwait received from the Aqaba Development Corporation to equip and operate the King Hussein International Airport (KHIA) Air Cargo Terminal at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) in Jordan.
Under terms of this agreement, which is for a period of 15 years, NAS will not only provide the cargo handling equipment at the terminal but will also operate it using its workforce and technology.
The NAS contract was one of several significant developments involving PWC affiliates and subsidiaries. In a first-of-its-kind agreement, Fujitsu Siemens Computers partnered with PWC Logistics to open a state-of-the-art assembly plant in Dubai, UAE. PWC Logistics UAE has been selected by Specialized Catering Services Establishment to provide warehousing, dis-tribution and freight management support in the GCC and Levant region. Specialized Cat-ering Services Esta-blishment is the master franchisee of Domino’s Pizza for the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan.
PWC Logistics (Saudi Arabia) announced recently that it had been awarded a major contract by the Saudi Arabia-based Al-Nahdi Medical Company (NMC) to handle its warehousing, transport and distribution operations throughout the kingdom. The contract will be for a minimum of five five years at a value of in excess of SR30,000,000.
Under the terms of the agreement, PWC Logistics will take responsibility for NMC’s warehousing operations in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam, and other areas and also design warehouse racking layouts, material flows, and processes in addition to managing the warehousing facilities. PWC Logistics will also provide and manage the distribution transport to its retail outlets and customers.
NMC operates over 300 pharmacies and sells to more than 1,000 other pharmacies throughout Saudi Arabia, and is planning further significant expansion. Current product volumes, including medicines, cosmetics, medical equipment and other personal care items, exceed 30,000 tonnes per year.
In a statement on the NAS contract, PWC said: “NAS won this contract based on the extremely high standards that it has set at the Kuwait International Airport in the short time since its start of operation just over two years ago and the increase in cargo tonnages for its client airlines, especially by introducing the concept of being a public bonded warehouse and a multi-modal gateway for imports and exports into and out of Kuwait – land, sea and air.”
This facility is considered to be a key business enabler in ASEZ and Jordan.
Bara’a Al-Roumi, NAS managing director, said: “The NAS cargo division has recently been recognised by both KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and British Airways for its outstanding service and support for the year 2004-2005”
He added “This agreement marks a new beginning for NAS and has made us an international company.
“Since we began our operations in late 2003, we have consistently been winning new customers and awards, a fact that reaffirms our drive to succeed and set new standards not only in Kuwait but in the region. We hope to continue in our accolades and soon become a world leader in the ground handling business in the future.”
NAS is the first private airline ground handling company at the Kuwait International Airport providing core airline services.
