DFS Middle East, specialising in difficult cargo movements to remote locations, has reported good business during its second year of operations in the region.

“Business levels are up on our first year,” says Daimen van Blerk, general manager of DFS Middle East, a logistics provider that has been operating in the Dubai Airport Free Zone (Dafz) for two years.
“Business to Iraq has been particularly good for us and we have a strong presence in Afghanistan, where we also offer ground facilities and procurement management. We have also operated about 180 peace-keeping and relief charters into the Dhafur region of Sudan,” Van Blerk said.
Operating in remote areas under difficult circumstances, DFS Middle East has acquired extensive experience in providing innovative solutions to clients facing a wide variety of transportation challenges.
“We don’t like to think of ourselves as a run-of-the-mill logistics provider; we have a niche market clientele that we like to take care of properly,” says Van Blerk.
Speaking of the company’s choice to open a regional hub in Dubai, he said: “You can react quickly from here. An eight- to 10-hour flight gets you just about anywhere in the world. The Dafz concept is an easy environment to establish yourself in and it is an outstanding one to work in,” he adds.
Van Blerk said the authorities made every effort to provide assistance and were willing to work with their tenants.
“It’s a real economy here, people are making money out of it. We have avenues of expansion at DFS that we want to look at. If you keep your feet on the ground and do what you do best, Dubai is a great place to work and there are so many opportunities here.”
