Riyadh Modern Factory for Container Manufacturing (CMC) recently completed a major upgrade to its pails and drums line.

The old equipment has been replaced with a new Sabatier Body Pack 40 oven and stacker on the existing pails line, as a result of which the speed of the line has increased to 40 pails per minute from 32, a CMC spokesman said
“Body Pack 40 is capable of expanding, flanging, seaming, beading, handle fixing and lacquering. The online tester checks for even the minutest of leaks in the seaming, welding and handle-fixing areas. Thereafter the pails go through the oven for drying of the lacquer. The stacker at the end automatically stacks the pails as per the programme that can be set remotely,” he explained.
“With this upgrade, CMC has greatly increased its productivity and consequently decreased the lead times for customers.”
Traditionally CMC has been very strong in the paints sector having grabbed a majority share of the business in Saudi Arabia. The company has the capability to produce pails and drums of capacities ranging from 10 litres to 25 litres and the products are marketed as open drums, closed drums and Italian drums.
“Probably CMC is the only regional producer of Italian drums, which require special seaming technology to ensure there is absolutely no leakage of contents that may be highly corrosive,” the spokesman said.
The company’s clients include paint manufacturers whose brands are market leaders.
CMC is part of the Al Watania for Industries Company, which is involved in a wide and diverse range of business activities.
The company specialises in metal-based packaging for food and industrial products and has been operating since 1976.
