Aberdeen-based C&M Group is using technology designed for underwater and offshore use to develop the equivalent of the “Black Box,” currently installed in all aircraft, for use in buses and taxis.

“Following the recent bombing incidents in London, bus companies are seeking to improve their security in line with the air travel industry,” says Chris Ward, director of C&M Group’s advanced technology division.
The multi-disciplined electrical engineering business has already developed bullet-proof and bomb-proof cameras for offshore installations and other high-security applications. Currently named the Bus-Cam, C&M Group’s solution to safeguarding photographic evidence in the event of a bomb blast onboard a bus involves miniature cameras located throughout the vehicle with the data transmitted and stored digitally in a bomb-proof casing.
Following a bomb blast, the cameras are likely to be destroyed but the images would be totally protected, allowing photographic evidence of what occurred immediately prior to the incident to be recovered.
Ward adds: “This type of product is a natural progression for us in our development of state-of-the-art digital systems. We design and produce a wide variety of solutions to meet tomorrow’s security needs for our clients, whether on the seabed, on top of a skyscraper or on a bus.”
C&M Group’s advanced technology division specialises in the design and development of innovative electronic and computer products.
