3M recently introduced two new products to the market - FireDam Spray 100 and Fire Barrier Self-Locking Pillows.  

FireDam Spray 100 is a sprayable water-based material that dries to form a tough, elastomeric coating.
“This material fire stops building joints, perimeter joints (curtain wall), and penetration seals. 3M FireDam Spray 100, when installed properly, will control the transmission of fire, heat and smoke before, during, and after exposure to fire,” a company spokesman said.
He listed the salient features of the product as: good adhesion to most construction materials; highly elastic – maintains performance with +/- 25 per cent joint movement; broad range of applications – extensive portfolio of tested and listed building and perimeter joint systems; applied with conventional airless spray equipment; robust job sit formula; high cling properties – stays where it’s sprayed; paintable; easy water clean-up
Fire Barrier Self-Locking Pillows are a self-contained, highly intumescent fire stop product for use in through-penetration fire stops. Simple to use, these interlocking strips lock pillows together. Compressing pillows prior to insertion secures them in the opening.
The Fire Barrier Self-Locking Pillows achieve up to three-hour fire ratings when tested by UL in accordance with ASTM E 814 (UL 1479).
The product is ideal for fire stopping medium to large openings with power or communication cables, conduits and cable trays.
The salient features include: interlocking strips lock pillows together; graphite free composition; available in three different sizes; easy to install; easy retrofit – remove and reuse pillows as needed; east to inspect.

“ In fact, 3M is one of the few manufacturers that can provide fully tested systems to firestop through-penetrations, perimeter joints, top-of-wall gaps, structural steel, emergency circuitry and grease/air ducts.
 Its fire protection products have been used comprehensively in the region for many of the prestigious projects such us Saudi Aramco, Shoaiba Power Plants and Ghazalan Power Plants in Saudi Arabia, ADIA project in Abu Dhabi and many of the Etisalat projects in the UAE.
