Sherwin-Williams has introduced two new products to its markets in recent months.
In July of this year it announced it was launching its KEM 4000 high-solids acrylic alkyd enamel, which is a high-gloss, VOC-compliant coating that dries quickly for rapid return to service. Earlier in May it introduced its Hydrogloss, single-component waterbased urethane which delivers VOC compliance and performance comparable to a two-component waterbased urethane, but with the ease of application available only in a one-component coating.
Elaborating on the KEM 4000 product, a company spokesman said less coating material was needed, due to its high solids formulation. As a result there were both labour and materials savings.
”KEM 4000 dries to touch in 15 minutes. It provides good exterior colour and gloss retention and good flexibility and film toughness. For interior or exterior use, it offers excellent airless spray properties. For light service environments, it may be applied directly to steel without a primer.”
The new product can be tinted to a broad range of colours. The coating is ready to use with no mixing of additional components. It is recommended for general metal applications including steel decking, doors, farm equipment, pipe and construction and agricultural equipment.
Elaborating on the Hydrogloss urethane, the spokesman said it was formulated to provide a high gloss finish with outstanding interior and exterior colour and gloss retention. The product also resisted yellowing and ensured an outstanding appearance year after year even in harsh industrial environments.
“Because it is a single-component coating, Hydrogloss waterbased urethane is ready to brush, roll or spray without adding and mixing additional components. Its waterbased formulation ensures low odour and easy clean-up, and a safer-to-use, more environmentally-friendly formula than its solvent-based counterparts,” the spokesman said.
It is also more forgiving than other coatings when exposed to early moisture while drying. It is recommended for use on water tanks, in power plants, amusement parks, bridge and highway construction, and for corporate logos and petrochemical plants as well as in general industrial applications.
Hydrogloss waterbased urethane may be tinted with Sherwin-Williams’ proprietary EnviroTone colorants to a wide variety of colours. With VOC content of 250 g/l, it meets all current VOC regulations.
It is one of many Sherwin-Williams proprietary technology products for use in industrial and commercial markets that feature environmental and user-friendly, low-VOC advantages for facility owners, managers and applicators.
Sherwin-Williams is the largest industrial and marine coatings manufacturer in the US with more than 2,600 company locations throughout the country.
