

GE has been a major partner of Zamil Air Conditioners for the past many years, supplying it vital components and contributing to the company’s great success in local and international markets.
GE is also a joint venture partner with Zamil Industrial Investment Company (ZIIC) in the manufacture of a range of air conditioners in Dammam. The joint venture named Middle East Air Conditioners (MEAC) came into existence in March of 1997.
MEAC has proved to be very successful and is in the process of enlarging its product range.
GE has been supplying to ZAC a wide range of products such as appliances controls, power protection components and, most importantly, fan motors produced by GE Motors India (GEMI) at its factory in Faridabad.
GEMI is a world-class motors manufacturer and recently it became part of the Regal-Beloit Corporation which purchased the HVAC motors business from General Electric Co in December 2004. The transaction was valued at approximately $379 million and is considered the largest acquisition in Regal-Beloit’s history.
Regal-Beloit Corporation is a leading manufacturer of mechanical and electrical motion control and power generation products serving markets throughout the world. It is headquartered in Beloit, Wisconsin, and has manufacturing, sales, and service facilities throughout the United States and Canada as well as in Mexico, Europe and Asia.
GE continues to market GEMI motors in the Middle East.
GE Commercial Motors and Controls (GE CM&C) is a leader in the manufacturing and marketing of FHP motors in North America and has been in this field for over a century now. In addition to FHP motors, GE CM&C’s product portfolio includes cold controls, programmable controls, drive systems, engineering services and Integral Horse Power motors, among others. GE CM&C entered India as GEMI in 1995.
“Zamil is a strategic customer to GE and, over the years, the relationship between Zamil and GE has progressed from the traditional vendor/customer relationship to a partners’ relationship,” said Ghaleb Abulsaud, sales manager, Middle East, GE Motors and Controls.
“In 2004 Zamil’s purchases from GE were approximately $10 million, which is about 35 per cent higher than in 2003 and they are expected to grow nicely in 2005.”
GE, which exports its products to almost every corner of the globe, was ranked No 1 on Fortune magazine’s global list of most admired companies in February 2005.
The company’s amazing story goes back to the days of Thomas Alva Edison, the inventor of the electric bulb. By 1890, Edison organised his various businesses under Edison General Electric Company. It 1892 it combined with The Thomson-Houston Company and the new outfit was called General Electric Company.
GE today is a giant organisation with 2004 earnings placed at $16.6 billion, up 6 per cent from 2003 earnings before required accounting changes.
