All eyes are on Intersec 2005, the Gulf’s leading security exhibition that will be held for three days from January 15 at the Dubai World Trade Centre and run parallel to an extensive conference programme.

The first major event for any industry in the New Year, Intersec 2005, organised by Epoc Messe Frankfurt, is presenting a range of high-tech products and equipment to cater to every possible security and fire prevention requirement.
“An unbelievable array of specialist security items will be on show including protective and safety clothing, smoke detectors, explosives detectors, safes, emergency vehicles, bullet-proof vests and body armour, skin diving equipment and much more,” says Geoffrey Dickinson, managing partner of Epoc Messe Frankfurt. Major exhibitors at Intersec include LG Electronics, Pelco, Norbain, Napco, Smith Heimann, Dallmeier, Panasonic, EADS, Sanyo, Bosch, 3M, 3 I Security International, Assa Abloy/Effeff, Fermax, Gantner, Minimax, Pelco and Securtex. The Dubai Police stand is expected to be another major attraction of the show.
The conferences feature four specialist areas of fire prevention and fighting (Mefec), policing (Mepec), commercial security (Mecsec) and health and safety (Mesh).
More than 300 exhibitors from 40 countries are due to take part at Intersec, which will run across three massive halls. “In each exhibition hall, we have dedicated a specialist area for the conferences to run in ... Intersec will show more than 360 international brands in the fire, security and police sectors,” said Imke Huelsmann, exhibition manager, Intersec.
Among those who had signed up by November 9 were 34 companies from Germany, 48 from the UK, 21 from Korea, and many more from Italy, Taiwan, US, Hong Kong, Canada, France, Singapore, Spain and Switzerland.
The show, in its 7th edition, will be a launch pad for some of the latest security equipment and gadgets, some never before seen in the region. For example, Bosch Security Systems plans to launch some exciting new products in fire, intrusion and CCTV.
Commenting on Bosch exhibits, the company’s regional manager Ramji Krishnan said: “We will be launching the new modular fire alarm panel, called the FPA5000 ‘’Magic’’ fire alarm panel and which has an easy-to-use multi-lingual interactive touch screen that displays status information and alarms with meaningful symbols and clearly comprehensible instructions. This will be on display with the FAP 500 LSN ‘ ‘Invisible’ smoke detector.’”
UAE company Emirtec will be showcasing its new image interpretation systems for airport applications as well as licence plate recognition systems for traffic control.
Roseline Biometric, a UAE-based biometric security integrator, will be showcasing solutions for iris recognition and biometric security. “The integrated iris recognition systems are easily customised for a user’s specific needs and provides the most accurate way to identify individuals. It is fast becoming the security solution of choice, superior to other biometrics like fingerprinting, voice and facial recognition, and retinal scans,” said Adnan Dahnous, managing director of Roseline.
Environmentally friendly products will also be on display at Intersec 2005 with Emirates Fire Fighting Equipment Factory (Firex), showcasing the American SEVO Systems, which offer an environmentally sustainable choice in fire suppression.
Apart from man-made systems, Intersec 2005 will host two of man’s best friends - a Cocker Spaniel and a Labrador. Professionally trained dogs are often used for the detection of drugs and explosives in public areas and high-security situations. DragonK9 Ltd, from the UK, will be demonstrating its training techniques with dogs and products at Intersec 2005.
“We are very honored to welcome the Ministry of Interior of the UAE, the Dubai Police and also the UAE Navy to Intersec 2005,” said Huelsmann.
