Demag’s new DR rope hoist, optimised for crane applications, presents a monorail hoist featuring compact dimensions with a new crane philosophy, the company says.
“At the same time, the manufacturer sets a new benchmark for standard cranes,” it adds.
“With its optimum C shape design for crane applications, Demag offers the well-equipped, high-performance monorail hoist together with the crane as a complete package at an attractive price. Thanks to the many benefits offered by the new DR rope hoist, the entire crane operates much more efficiently,” a Demag spokesman said.
Following intensive market research, Demag has tailored the DR rope hoist to meet customer demands, these being primarily for more performance. For this reason, the travel and lifting speeds have been increased. The travel speed amounts to 30 m/min, the hoist operates at 6 m/min.
This makes the DR rope hoist faster than comparable competitor products. The long and cross-travel speeds can be infinitely varied by means of frequency inverter control, enabling the crane to position with virtually no sway, and therefore quickly, gently, safely and precisely. Furthermore, the smooth handling characteristics also reduce the mechanical load on the crane installation. The main customer benefit resulting from this optimised package is 20 per cent higher handling rates, the spokesman maintained.
Demag’s integrated monitoring system, fitted as standard, also provides greater efficiency, enabling individual operating parameters of the hoist and the entire crane installation to be read by means of remote diagnostics. Examples of these features are the error memory, the load spectrum recorder, which facilitates verification of the total time the crane has been in operation, the operating hour counter as well as information on the load suspended from the hook at any given time and the condition of the brakes. This enables the owner to respond to brake wear in good time for preventive maintenance purposes, for example; this benefit cuts maintenance costs and facilitates improved planning. The monitoring system can also be used to programme other status parameters in the rope hoist electronic equipment. Data exchange is effected via interfaces that are integrated into the control elements.
In line with the demands profile gained from the market survey, Demag also increased the rope hoist service life by approximately 20 per cent. Thanks to these optimised characteristics, the DR rope hoist is specified for a service life of 1,900 hours at full load, thereby exceeding the usual value found in the market by 300 hours. Due to the higher design rating, owners also benefit from greater availability, since repairs or general overhauls do not have to be performed until a later date, which ultimately results in greater efficiency.
“A further highlight of the design concept is the compact configuration of both the monorail hoist and the standard crane, with which Demag sets new standards. Since the crane design can be adapted to the given roof structure angle, customers can build smaller workshops and therefore reduce their construction costs,” the spokesman observed.
“Consequently, follow-on costs, such as for heating, are also reduced. This inherent adaptability also results in a longer hook path. The compact monorail hoist design also provides for smaller approach dimensions, enabling the rope hoist to serve larger areas.”
The monorail hoist and crane unit can be supplied with a conventional control pendant suspended from a cable or an optional radio remote control as standard. Signal transmission via Can Bus virtually guarantees perfect operation.
Demag also paid attention to safety when designing the low-noise rope hoist with the addition of protection to prevent anything being caught in the rope lead-in. Ergonomic operating elements with a display improve ease of operation and also offer greater transparency, by referring to maintenance cycles and providing a warning if the permissible load capacity is exceeded, for example. Thanks to plug-in connections and documentation tailored to the installation, the DR rope hoist can be installed and commissioned with ease.
Standard cranes by Demag Cranes & Components largely consist of standardised modules, which are manufactured in series and supplied at short notice. This means that customers are provided with consistently cost-effective and high-quality products without having to wait long for delivery. Examples of the benefits are the proven crane geometry and production to engineering tolerances in the connections between the crane girder and the end carriages, which provide for optimum travel characteristics and low wear. Weight reduction by means of computer-assisted static design programmes result in lower loads and forces for more favourable crane runway dimensioning and a smaller crane runway profile section. The perfectly matched components supplied from one source guarantee outstanding quality.
Furthermore, these standard cranes can be extended quickly, easily and cost-effectively. For example, a crane anti-collision device and a bypass control system as well as circuitry for parallel operation of several hoists can be incorporated.
The high level of availability of the rope hoists and standard cranes is ensured by the largest sales and service network in the industry, for rapid assistance and greater efficiency. Owners have the certainty of reliable planning thanks to Demag’s promise for guaranteed spare parts supplies for many years. If the customer concludes a revolving guarantee for cranes, Demag ensures that the product is maintained for up to 10 years and that it satisfies all statutory safety requirements. This means that customers can fully concentrate on their core business.
The DR rope hoist market launch, with which Demag Cranes & Components further increases its technical leadership edge, will start deliveries of the three DR3, DR5, DR10 size units, which are each available in two drum lengths with a 6- or 10-m hook path. The manufacturer’s designations refer to the load capacities of 3.2, 5 and 10 tons. The DR rope hoist will initially replace the corresponding DH rope hoists in this load capacity range. The larger capacities up to 100 tons will follow at a later date.
