Fifty business establishments in Bahrain have adopted the EAN.UCC bar codes system, according to Raed Al Samahiji, the founder of the Bahrain office of EAN International.

Al Samahiji, who is also director of Universal Windows, said membership was just eight when the office was opened in 2001 and that interest in bar codes was growing in Bahrain.
EAN stands for European Article Numbering and UCC for Universal Code Council.
“EAN Bahrain has developed multi-industry standards that guarantee unique and unambiguous identification of products and services,” said Al Samahiji,
“This system provides a global language for manufacturers, exporters, importers, wholesalers and retailers to efficiently communicate information about their goods or services.”
EAN was set up in 1974 as a not-for-profit international association with a Brussels-based head office.
