Sigma Paints was associated with several projects in the Gulf in recent months including diving support vessels in Dubai, a skywalk bridge, also in Dubai, and a rehabilitation centre in Saudi Arabia.
The company also introduced in the region a new range of wood stain.
It won a contract to supply coating for two new vessels being built for Mutawa Marine at Dubai Dry Docks.
“After extensive negotiations and meetings with both Dubai Dry Docks and Mutawa Marine in Abu Dhabi, Sigma was awarded the newbuildings,” the paint company said.
“This is the first of its kind to be done in the ship repair yard. The competition was between all major marine paint manufacturers in the UAE, finally coming down to Sigma or Jotun. The significant coating, which swayed the builders and owners, was Sigma Prime, which will be used extensively throughout the two vessels.”
The skywalk bridge that Sigma painted is the longest of its kind in the world, spanning 72 metres. The bridge is erected between the Marriott Executive Apartments in Deira Dubai and was painted with Sigma paints by Emirates Building Systems based in the Jebel Ali area.
The bridge is now a major attraction for the Marriott Hotel Group in Deira and a beautiful sight for the local community.
The project was “an excellent bridging process between Emirates Building Systems and Sigma Paints UAE,” the paint company said.
Sigma also supplied paints for the Disabled Rehabilitation and Care Centre on King Fahd Street in the city of Najma in Saudi Arabia’s Central Province.
The centre, whose total area is 45,000sq m excluding the parking area but with a building area of 14,283sq m, can accommodate up to 400 persons and another 300 daytime trainees.
The project was designed and supervised by the Hisham Hassan Engineering Office and constructed by Al Babtain Contracting Establishment under the leadership of projects manager Qamar Addawlah Al Shinnawi.
Samer Al Shami, sales executive for Sigma in the Central Province, signed the deal and supplied paints for a total value of SR275,000.
Sigma said its new range of wood stain called Rustikal Décor was developed and tested specially for the Middle East.
“Rustikal Decor is a translucent wood stain intended to protect and decorate the wood. It is UV-resistant, water-repellant and has good colour retention properties,” it said. The wood stain comes in a new range of 20 colours (pink, fuchsia, raspberry, orange, gray, apple green and sky blue, among other hues).
