Local logistics companies MMI Logistics (MMIL), a division of the MMI Group, and Freightworks have joined forces to create a service partnership to offer customers in the UAE a broader range of products and services in supply chain capabilities. The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to ensure that their respective strengths are offered in combination to customers based in the region, and globally, through their combined network of partners and agents.

Ron Martin, Freightworks general manager, explaining the significance of the new partnership, said: "Dubai is recognised to be at the forefront of development in the Middle East and has seen some remarkable achievements in recent years. As the undisputed focal point of the region's trade - covering mercantile expertise, well developed infrastructure and a strategic location for thriving local economies - a partnership like this is a collective achievement for the emirate."

He added that the combined management and teams of MMIL and Freightworks would jointly offer an unparalleled logistics service - into, out of, and through Dubai.

Commented Mile Lee, head of MMI Logistics: "What this partnership brings to the provision of the supply chain management industry is a combination of MMIL's expertise in logistics warehousing, storage, product control, added value services and transportation, together with Freightworks' expertise in freight forwarding - covering air, sea and land.

"The services not only complement each other, but offer more comprehensive service options to customers wishing to move goods to their point-of-sale, in the shortest possible time. It also affords faster sale of products to the customer, and speedier turnaround of cash."

Martin elaborated that with this partnership, customers could have easy access to both companies' assets and specialist services.

"With MMI Logistics operating from a modern Logistics Distribution Centre in Jebel Ali Free Zone, and with Freightworks' new bonded freight facility adjacent to Dubai International Airport, a specialist container freight station in Jebel Ali Free Zone, and an air cargo centre in the Dubai Cargo Village, our partnership will offer customers a choice of five superior operating facilities," he said.

"Customers can also avail themselves of more than 30,000sq m of storage space and in excess of 46,000 pallet storage positions; refrigerated, cool, air-conditioned and temperature-controlled storage; bonded facilities; resident customs officer services; a container freight station; more than 70 delivery vehicles to handle all sizes of freight and 39 specialised loading bays. The partnership will also offer 450 qualified and experienced staff at various levels of expertise, with the capacity to operate on a 24 hour a day, seven days a week basis," said Martin.

Both companies are joint ventures of the Emirates Group, and have a longstanding record of excellence and experience in providing services in the Middle East. MMI was established in 1891 and Freightworks in 1975.

Freightworks is an IATA-accredited cargo agent and operates under stringent quality procedures. Additionally, Freightworks has the significant benefit of the Kanoo Group as a shareholder - one of the foremost trading and services companies in the Middle East.
