International oilfield service company Expro International Group has successfully achieved the significant milestone of 1,000ft of production perforating in clients' wells using its Slickline Perforating System, which measures depth with accuracy of +/- 2ft.
The achievement was recorded over a two-year period during which Expro has perforated over 26 wells in the North Sea, Thailand, China, and the US using slickline. In this time, Expro's unique system was used by a number of major operators including Shell, BP, Phillips, ExxonMobil, Conoco, Unocal and Lasmo.
"As part of a broader 'slickline revolution' initiative, Expro's use of slickline for reliable, accurate and cost-effective perforating has an undeniably successful track record that covers both on- and offshore (including remote) locations," the company said. The Group's perforating system uses a hollow carrier or strip-gun assemblies, as well as various combinations of wire types and sizes to suit any well or downhole condition.
Bob Will, business stream director for Cased Hole Services, commented: "The milestone reflects two notable successes for Expro's suite of slickline products. Firstly, it indicates the unrivalled accuracy with which we can measure the depth of our perforating operations. And, secondly, it highlights the success of Expro's development and investment strategy of providing revolutionary slickline services to clients around the world."
Expro International Group is a leading international oilfield service provider of key products and services necessary to safely complete and manage oil and gas wells. These products and services are packaged into three distinct business streams: Cased Hole Services, Subsurface Systems, and Surface and Environmental Systems, giving clients the ability to maximise the recovery of their reserves.
The Expro Group employs over 2,000 people worldwide and has become an innovative leader in oilfield technology aligned with the needs of its customers.
Expro can now perform 98 per cent of all operations that might be required during the life of a well, by running slickline.
Expro has over 28 years of well-servicing experience, encompassing the managing and running of traditional mechanical and electrical data acquisition services. "Being able to draw on this wealth of experience and by the continual development of key technologies, it is only now that it is possible to perform virtually all data acquisition/intervention services that might be required during the life of a well. More importantly, these services can by run on slickline with no compromise in data quality or depth control accuracy," said Expro in a text.
"Essentially Slickline operations are:
Within the Slickline revolution, the following key technologies have been developed:
DigiCal: The Kinley caliper has now been integrated with state-of-the-art digital technology to produce electronic data that can be viewed at the well site or transmitted via the Internet to client/Expro offices for detailed corrosion analysis by the company's experts.
Slickline Perforating: The unique combination of Expro's Slickline Explosive Initiator (4S trigger) with Expro's Slickline Depth Control System allows clients to run any standard e-line explosive on slickline with a depth accuracy of ± 2.0 ft in any well regardless of well type.
EXothermal Sampler: Downhole fluid samples are maintained at reservoir pressure and temperature whilst being pulled to surface preventing irreversible changes to the fluids as heavier components cool and drop out of solution. The sample can then be tested at the well site using the Expro Global Onsite Laboratory Data (GOLD) system to perform full PVT analysis.
The Expro Group provides a closely related range of specialised products and services to companies engaged in oil and gas exploration and production. These are fundamental to the safe, efficient and economic exploitation of hydrocarbon reserves.
The Group's product lines are managed through its three business streams and the delivery of products and services to its clients is co-ordinated by four geographical regions Europe, Africa/FSU, Asia Pacific and the Americas.
