Bahra’s plant near Jeddah is supported by German technology
Bahra Cables has been classified as one of the top 100 fastest-growing companies in Saudi Arabia by the “Saudi Fast Growth Awards” initiative.
The initiative, launched in 2008 by the Private Sector Initiatives Programme of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (Sagia), assesses the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises and highlights that key segment of the private sector.
Talal Idriss, chief executive officer of Bahra Cables, said the company was proud of being placed in the top 100. “Since its inception in 2008, Bahra Cables has adopted the latest German production systems and expertise, which have helped the company greatly in achieving rapid growth and production expansion aimed at meeting Saudi market and export demand,” he said.
Bahra Cables has achieved many accreditation certificates such as Kema, IPH, Saso, LPCB, CSA and Basec, among others. The company is also ISO 9001: 2008 certified for its range of medium and high voltage cables up to 132 kV. Moreover, it is the first Saudi cable company to achieve ISO 14001: 2004 and OHSAS certifications.
“The Saudi Fast Growth Awards initiative, while encouraging leading companies to come up with more creative ideas, also spurs the launch of a new generation of companies to ensure the growth and prosperity of the Saudi economy,” Idriss said, adding that the initiative honoured regional enterprises owned by women and young entrepreneurs as well.
Classification of the Saudi top 100 fastest-growing companies falls in two categories. The first involves companies more than five years old, whose growth is measured based on performance and revenue in the previous three years. The second category is for companies less than five years old.
Bahra Cables was founded in 2008 as an affiliate of Construction Products Holding Company (CPC) in a joint venture with Electric House to serve the Saudi Arabian, GCC and other markets. The company’s headquarters is in Bahra Industrial City, 25 km from Jeddah. Its 300,000 sq m electrical cables plant includes manufacturing, designing and storage facilities. Specialised in the production and distribution of electrical cables, the company aims to become the main developer of low, medium, and high voltage cables in Saudi Arabia. It plans to expand its range of electrical products by manufacturing various copper tapes and busbars.
Recently, the company started a factory to produce PVC for insulation and cable sheathing. The company has incorporated state-of-the-art production lines to bring forth the highest quality of finished products. The design, system and management are supported by German technology.
PRODCUTS SHOWCASED
Bahra Cables showcased its key products including multipurpose, low and medium voltage and fire-resistant cables at the Middle East Electricity Exhibition 2012 exhibition held recently in Dubai.
The company also showcased a sample of its PVC, a plastic used for packaging and electrical cable insulation, at the expo which drew more than 1,000 exhibitors.
“This annual exhibition is important as it offers electricity and accessories manufacturers a solid platform to interact with potential regional clients and international counterparts seeking partnerships,” said Idriss.
