Top coat introduced for yachts

The new product has been developed for top-class yachts

Jotun Paints has announced the release of the new Megagloss HG, described as a safe and trouble-free polyester-polyurethane top coat specially designed for top-class yachts.

The company will be exhibiting the product at the Dubai International Boat Show 2012, which will be held from March 13 to 17 at the Dubai International Marine Club, Mina Seyahi.

Jotun will also present the significant benefits and advantages of using Megagloss HG across world-class yachts and smaller sized vessels.

The new top coat is the result of four years of intensive research and development conducted by the firm’s main corporate laboratory in Norway and the Yacht Concept Centre in Barcelona. The end product is a new top coat that has been specifically formulated to provide long-term resistance to UV light, erosion, impacts and chemicals. The new Megagloss HG was tested across two yachts measuring at over 40 m; the MY H2ome from Italy and the SY Canica from Spain - with both vessels reporting great results.

“Regulations in the painting industry have become tighter over the last few years and our research and development department has worked extensively in the development and creation of world-class products catering to the strong demand of various industry verticals,” said Youssef El Said, sales manager – yachting, Jotun Paints.

“Megagloss HG is our new high-gloss, high-solids product that has been tailor-made to address the need for a highly durable top coat for today’s world-class yachts and smaller type vessels. Participating at the Dubai International Boat Show will give us the opportunity to reach out to the large number of high-end luxurious yachts in the Middle East and promote the advantages of using the new Megagloss HG,” he said.

Binder technology

The new Megagloss HG is based on new binder technology that gives it a mixing ratio of 1:1 on volume, thereby making it more user-friendly. The product offers good colour stability and provides a specified dry film thickness after the application of three coats, giving off a mirror like appearance effect. Measured across a micro wave scanner, the Megagloss HG shows both short waves (Sw) and long waves (Lw), while also providing vessels with excellent abrasion resistance. The product is offered in colours requested by customers.

“Looking forward to the next challenge and the aim to drive the market to new levels are part of the business philosophies we follow. The positive results we have achieved in testing Megagloss HG across two super yachts have given us the confidence to create more products utilising new technologies and innovations. We also remain steadfast in our commitment to provide our rapidly growing customer base with key value-added services to help address their demands and requirements,” said Youssef.

Founded in 1926 in Norway, Jotun established its presence in the Middle East in 1974, with Jotun UAE. The company has consistently invested in state-of-the-art factories including a recently opened plant in the Al Quoz area of Dubai, its biggest worldwide.
