Italian firm Faccin has reported its rolling machines have gained popularity in the Gulf with a number of companies installing them in their manufacturing facilities.

“We are proud to say that we have now the highest number of rolling machines with a capacity of over 80 mm thickness in the region,” said Fabio Migliorati, Faccin’s sales director.
One of the companies that installed a Faccin rolling machine was Olayan Descon, a well-known EPC contractor and an operations and maintenance services company for the oil and gas, refineries, chemical, cement and petrochemical plants in the Gulf.
Olayan Descon processes over 8,000 tonnes of steel annually to produce pressure vessels, reactors, columns, heat exchangers and other equipment used in the petrochemical industry and they perform according to the ASME standards R-U-U2-A-S.
The Faccin rolling machine was installed early in 2008 at Olayan Descon’s Jubail plant in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.
“The machine of choice was a Faccin HAV10/S which incorporates the very latest in advanced technology combined with its unique variable geometry rolling system. The HAV10/S has a capacity of 3,000 x 170 mm and is one of the biggest rolling machines installed in the GCC,” said Migliorati.

Performance praised
Commenting on the machine, mechanical engineer Pir Muhammad Tayyab, who has been head of manufacturing at Olayan Descon for the past seven years, said: “Turning to Faccin we found they were offering efficiency, quality, reliability and proven experience in bending rolls machines manufacturing. The machine performs perfectly in its capacity range and since the installation in March 2008 it has been very reliable and when we do call for services we get a prompt response and fix our problems.”
Olayan Descon was established as a joint venture between Olayan Saudi Holding Co and Descon Engineering Co to leverage their combined rich experience in financial and engineering backgrounds and to position itself as a leading integrated engineering service company. The company has 2,500 personnel.

Giant machine
The giant machine was designed, engineered and manufactured by Faccin Srl Italy who has been successfully supplying similar equipment for more than 40 years, as well as machines for profile/section bending, dishing and flanging for dome ends among other things to complement a full range of plate rolling machines.
“It was very important for us at Faccin to consolidate our leadership in the GCC countries with Olayan Descon. They are respected and very well known in the whole region,” said Migliorati.
Faccin machines are fully produced at an extensive state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Visano (Brescia), Northern Italy.  
“An important focus for Faccin is to maintain a strong after sales service, with the capability to install, maintain, repair, and offer a full training programme for its large range of products world-wide.  Faccin also offers a full retrofitting service for updating any rolling machines already in the field,” said Migliorati.
