Saudi Arabia is soon to host one of the most comprehensive exhibitions in the region for transportation, materials handling, warehousing and logistics.

Saudi Transtec 2011, now in its second year, is officially supported by the Saudi Ministry of Transport and will be held at the Dhahran International Exhibitions Centre, Dammam, from October 17 to 19. The exhibition will be complemented by a conference.

The exhibition has been expanded and several new companies will be joining many of those who appeared at the inaugural edition, said Saudi Transtec organiser International Exhibition Services (IES).

A ‘perfect environment’

'This exhibition and conference offers the perfect environment and opportunity for local, regional and international companies to take advantage of accelerated growth in these key sectors,' IES said.

'As the sole exhibition and conference in the Eastern Province dedicated to transportation, logistics, warehousing and materials handling, Saudi Transtec provides the essential platform for key industry professionals, specialists and decision-makers from across the Gulf region and beyond to meet, network, learn and strengthen relationships,' it added.

Kingdom an ideal hub

Saudi Arabia provides the ideal hub for global transportation thanks to its strategic position between Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific and its major ports on both the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf offering strong sea transport solutions. The transport sector is projected for considerable growth over the next five years with domestic cargo demand and international flows anticipated to grow.

'With plans for Saudi Arabia to target $100 billion of investment in port, airport, rail, road and logistics projects over the next decade, and a strategy to make it one of the world’s leading transport and logistics hubs by 2020, the kingdom offers large-scale venture opportunities through projects including airport renovations and a number of large rail developments,' IES pointed out.

New workshop

IES also announced that a new one-day workshop hosted by ISCEA (International Supply Chain Education Alliance) would be held as part of Saudi Transtec. 'This workshop will introduce participants to the fundamental principles necessary to systematically eliminate unsustainable practices. Applying lean and green concepts discussed in this workshop to your supply chain will create a sustainable competitive advantage. Your organisation will be able to make the changes required to craft a sustainable lean supply chain,' it elaborated.

New firms confirm entry

The Saudi Transtec 2011 exhibition has also been expanded to accommodate the additional demand for companies wishing to exhibit.
