
Emal celebrates safety record
Emirates Aluminium (Emal) recently celebrated a full year and five million work hours without a single lost time incident (LTI).
Emal president and CEO Saeed Fadhel Al Mazrooei said: 'Safety first, last and always is at the core of Emal, and the outstanding milestone of 600,000 tonnes of aluminium without a single LTI is the result of very robust and comprehensive health and safety standards, leadership, and team work across all Emal departments.'
The smelter is on track to produce 750,000 tonnes of aluminium in 2011.
UIC reports net profit of $3.4m
United Industries Company (UIC), a member of Kuwait Projects Company Group (Kipco), posted a net profit of KD941,050 ($3.43 million) for the first half of 2011.
The net profit for the corresponding period of 2010 was KD4.79 million. UIC chairman and CEO Essa Khalid Al Essa said the decrease was because last year’s profit included KD3.35 million divestment income of Saudi New Zealand Milk Products Company.
UIC successfully negotiated and rescheduled bank loans amounting to KD52.5 million from short-term to medium-term loan over a period of five years ending December 2016.
Qatari bank to help small firms
Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), the largest Islamic bank in Qatar, has launched a new banking programme for micro-enterprises.
QIB’s financing programme aims at helping micro-enterprises and small businesses increase their productivity and profitability while enabling them to deal effectively and efficiently with the banking sector.
'The Qatari government places much emphasis on developing a strong small business sector as it is critical to the growth of the local economy,' said Ahmad Meshari, acting CEO, Qatar Islamic Bank.
Hydratight honours Khimji Ramdas
Hydratight has presented Khimji Ramdas, its partner in Oman, with a special award to mark 10 years of relationship.
The engineering services specialist said the combination of its world-class bolting and machining expertise and the Omani firm’s deep roots within the country’s business community had yielded major benefits for both companies.
Hydratight’s growing partnership with Khimji Ramdas allowed firms to offer a growing list of products in bolting and machining and joint integrity services throughout the country, it said.
