Craft delivered

One of the newly built 42 m landing craft

Abu Dhabi Ship Building delivered the first of two 42 m landing craft being built for the Royal Bahrain Naval Force.

The project, being undertaken at the company’s world-class ship building facility in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi, has helped strengthen its reputation as a world-class builder of various naval ships, the company said.

The 42 m vessels are designed to carry troops and vehicles, and can be used for cargo transportation and beach landing.

Earlier, in late 2009, the shipyard delivered two 16 m fast landing craft to the Bahraini Navy well ahead of schedule.

The 16 m vessels are capable of speeds in the 35-40 knot range and are designed for rapid deployment of personnel and supplies.

Abu Dhabi Ship Building previously built and delivered to the UAE Navy two vessels similar to the 42 m landing craft delivered to Bahrain.

Homaid Al Shemmari, chairman, Abu Dhabi Ship Building, said: “The delivery of the 42 m vessel to the Royal Bahrain Naval Force is a testament to the world-class expertise and capabilities of Abu Dhabi Ship Building and reinforces our position as the preferred supplier and specialised service provider among military institutions in the GCC.”

Abu Dhabi Ship Building was founded in 1996. It posted a net profit of Dh114.39 million ($31.1 million) on revenues of more than Dh1.16 billion in 2009, representing its best annual performance.
