Huntsman launches new TPU
Huntsman Polyurethanes has developed a fire-retardant, halogen-free thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), Irogran A95P5003DP, which complies with current safety standards for cable jacketing materials used in the IT and consumer electronics sector, including the European RoHS directive and the US VW1 standard.

Irogran A95P5003DP can be extruded at high speeds on conventional PVC processing equipment and has a good surface quality. According to the manufacturer, this makes it ideal for use in both cable power systems and injection moulding for electronic devices including plasma screens, mobile phones, MP3 players, digital cameras and laptops.

Milliken rebrands additive
Milliken & Co has rebranded an antimicrobial additive designed for use in LSR silicone elastomers named SelectSilver SR12.

The additive was formerly called AlphaSan CW 12 and is now being marketed for use beyond its key consumer-products applications. It is a completely inorganic additive that contains silver ions as its active antimicrobial ingredient and has high thermal stability, low moisture content and a small particle size, Milliken said.

Milliken said SelectSilver SR12 inhibits growth of microbes on a surface with its silver ions which interfere with the metabolism of the microbes.
