
3M goes for oil and gas products
3M, the US-based producer of consumer and industrial goods, is planning to set up a manufacturing unit in the Gulf to produce oil and gas products. After 20 successful years in the region, the company is completing talks with a local business group to set up the facility in Jebel Ali, the Gulf News reports.
A company official said the new venture would look into products which are related to oil and gas.
Dubal to install gas turbines
Dubai Aluminium Company (Dubal) is going to enter into a four-year retrofit programme involving installation of four gas turbines that will reduce emissions and improve efficiency, a published report said.
A local newspaper quoted Moosa Ismail, Dubal's general manager for power and desalination, as saying that the company would sign a contract with General Electric (GE) soon to retrofit four gas turbines with new turbine combustion systems.
Jebel Ali to get new turbines
The Siemens Power Generation Group (PG) will supply three gas turbines, two steam turbines and the electrical and instrumentation and control equipment valued at 140 million euros ($130 million) for the Jebel Ali power plant complex.
Total investment in the plant is around 500 million euros, according to a report in the Khaleej Times. The purchaser is the Italian power provider Enelpower which, as general contractor, is building the entire plant together with Italy's Fisia Italimpanti, the company responsible for the desalination plant.
$3m profit for UAE firm
UAE firm Arab Company for Poultry Production (ACPP) has reported a profit of Dh11 million ($3 million) for 2000, estimated at 13.31 per cent of the total capital.
Chairman Abdullah Al Thanian said that despite distributing the surplus of the company's cash flow among shareholders in October, ACPP still had a high cash flow estimated at Dh57.6 million at the end of the year. The profits for the year 2000 would be distributed to shareholders shortly, he said.
