Scope: The scope of work includes the engineering, design and construction of an ammonia/urea plant with infrastructural facilities in Manama. Expected production of ammonia is 2,100 tpd and urea is 3,600 tpd.
Update: Honeywell has been appointed for a feasibility study.
Package: Alba - Potline 6
Owner: Alba
Budget: $1.7 billion
Scope: The scope of work includes the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the 6th pot-line at Alba’s existing facilities in Bahrain.
Update: The company is trying to get finance for the project.
Package: GPIC - CO2 Recovery Unit
Owner: GPIC
Budget: $100 million
Scope: The scope of the project is to identify and evaluate options for
onshore and offshore carbon dioxide (CO2) capture emitted during the oil production process and use the carbon dioxide (CO2) as feedstock to GPIC urea and methanol synthesis processes.
Update: The project will be handed over by the first quarter of 2010.
Package: Foulath/Yamato - Hidd Integrated Steel Complex
Owner: Foulath & Yamato JV
Budget: $1 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design and construction of a 1.6 million tpy steel plant in the Hidd Industrial Area.
Update: The EPC contract has still to be awarded. It is expected by the end of 2009.
Package: CNIM - Waste Incineration Plant
Owner: CNIM
Budget: $700 million
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of a waste
incineration plant, which is expected to handle all of Bahrain’s solid waste.
Update: Development is still in the planning stage. Some studies have still to be performed before work can commence.
Package: Bahrain Wastewater Privatisation - Muharraq Sewage Treatment Plant
Owner: Bahrain Ministry of Works and Housing
Budget: $250 million
Scope: The project calls for the privatisation of Bahrain’s wastewater sector. As part of the programme a new sewage treatment plant is being planned in the Muharraq region. The plant will have a capacity of 100,000 cu m per day.
Update: Bids submission for the main contract is expected around January 20, 2010.
OMAN
Package: Barka IWPP 3 - Power at Sohar and Barka
Owner: Oman Power & Water Procurement Company (PWPC)
Budget: $1 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of a 650 MW
power plant at Sohar in the north of Oman and another 650 MW plant at Barka in the northeast of the sultanate. The plants are part of the 1,300 MW Barka IWPP 3.
Update: Bids submission is due around December 7, 2009.
Package: Salalah IWPP - Power
Owner: PWPC
Budget: $700 million
Scope: The project calls for the construction of a 400 MW
power and 15 million gpd desalination Independent Water Power Plant (IWPP) in Salalah on a Build, Own & Operate (BOO) basis.
Update: Bids for the main construction contract are under evaluation.
Package: Oman Wastewater Services Company (OWSC) - Muscat Wastewater Project - Seeb
Owner: Muscat Municipality
Budget: $400 million
Scope: The project calls for the development of an integrated
wastewater scheme for Muscat. The development covers 3,670 sq km of Greater Muscat, Seef, Bausher, Seeb, Amerat and Quaint. The project will provide sewage services to 46,000 households and supply treated water for irrigation.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in June 2011.
Package: Hurrah IWPP - Desalination
Owner: PWPC
Budget: $300 million
Scope: Construction of a 500 MW gas-fired power plant and a 25 million gpd desalination plant. The plants will be at the same the site of the existing 450 MW Hurrah power plant.
Update: The main tender is due in the first quarter of 2010.
QATAR
Package: Shalala IWPP - Desalination Project
Owner: PWPC
Budget: $300 million
Scope: The project calls for the construction of 400 MW power and 15 million gpd desalination Independent Water Power Plant (IWPP) in Shalala on a Build, Own and Operate (BOO) basis.
Update: The bids for the main construction contract are under evaluation.
SAUDI ARABIA
Package: New Doha International Airport - 3 Utility Plants
Owner: New Doha International Airport (NDIA) Steering Committee
Budget: $250 million
Scope: The project calls for design and construction of three utility plants at New Doha International airport in Qatar.
Update: Contracting & Trading Group (CAT) has been awarded the EPC contract.
Package: King Abdullah Economic City - Industrial Zone - Plastic Industries Area
Owner: Savola Group
Budget: $3 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of a plastics
industrial area in the Industrial Zone in King Abdullah
Economic City in Saudi Arabia.
Update: The project is scheduled to commence operations after infrastructure work is completed on the industrial zone.
Package: Rabigh 6 Power Expansion
Owner: Saudi Electricity Company (SEC)
Budget: $2 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of Rabigh 6 power expansion in the north of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The project will have a capacity of 2,400 to 2,800 MW of power.
Update: Bids submission for the main contract is due around 15 January 2010.
Package: Hadeed - Jubail Mill Expansion 3
Owner: Saudi Iron & Steel Company (Hadeed)
Budget: $1 billion
Scope: The project calls for expanding the Hadeed steel production facility in Jubail by 1 million tpy. This will increase Hadeed’s steel production by 22 per cent to reach 6.5 million tpy by 2010.
Update: The project is still in the planning phase.
Package: Jizan Economic City - PKIC Steel Plant - Phase 2
Owner: Pan Kingdom Investment Company (PKIC)
Budget: $600 million
Scope: The project calls for expanding the production capacity of the steel plant in multiple phases. The expansion includes a rolling mill, melt shop and also the addition of a direct reduction iron (DRI) plant.
Update: STX Heavy Industries has been awarded the EPC contract and the plant is scheduled to be completed in 2011.
Package: Safco Hadeed JV - Steel Plant in Jubail
Owner: Safco-Hadeed JV
Budget: $550 million
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of a steel plant which will be located in Jubail Industrial City in Saudi Arabia. The plant will produce of 1.7 million tonnes per annum of flat products.
Update: The development is still in the planning stage.
Package: Osos PBT Complex in Yanbu - Process Units
Owner: Osos Petrochemicals
Budget: $500 million
Scope: The project calls for the design, supply and construction of a facility having a capacity of 75,000 tpy of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) in Yanbu. The facility will also have a butanediol (BDO) unit and a purified teraphthalate Acid (PTA) unit to feed the polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) plant. The scope of work also includes off sites and utilities. Aramco will supply butane to the butanediol (BDO) unit.
Update: The EPC contract has still to be awarded.
Package: Hadeed - 1.7 tpy Steel Plant - Saudi Arabia

Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of a steel plant whose location is expected to be on the west or east coast of the kingdom. The plant will have a capacity of 1.7 million tpy of flat steel.

Package: Satlub - Manufacturing Plant in King Abdullah Economic City
Owner: Saudi Total Lubricants Company (Satlub)
Budget: $500 million
Scope: The project calls for the construction of a manufacturing plant for advanced lubricant products at the King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). The initial production capacity will be 35,000 tonnes of finished products per year with potential for expansion.

Package: Jubail Arabian Amines Petrochemicals Development

Budget: $289 million
Scope: The project calls for the construction of a 27,215 tpy ethylene amines plant in Jubail.
Update: Commissioning is expected by December 2009.
Package: Yanbu Industrial City - IWTP II

Budget: $200 million
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of a 48,000 cu m per day industrial wastewater treatment plant at Yanbu Industrial City in Saudi.
Update: SETE Energy Saudia for Industrial Projects Ltd has been awarded the main construction contract for the project.
Package: PCIC - Shuaiba Petroleum Coke Plant - Phase 2
Owner: Petroleum Coke Industries Company (PCIC)
Budget: $200 million
Scope: The project calls for expanding a PCIC petroleum coke plant in Shuaiba as part of the second phase. The expansion of the facility under construction will increase capacity from 350,000 tpy to 700,000 tpy by using 900,000 tpy of crude coke.
Update: The project is still in the planning phase.
Package: King Abdullah Economic City - Red Sea Village (Bay La Sun Village) - District Cooling
Owner: Emaar Economic City Company
Budget: $200 million
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of two cooling stations in King Abdullah Economic City. The two cooling stations will be for residential and commercial buildings in Bay La Sun Village. The scope of work will include two district cooling plants with capacities of 37,500 and 40,000 refrigeration tonnes.

Package: Dewa - Hassyan Power & Desalination Plant (Station Q) - Phase 1 - Power
Owner: Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa)
Budget: $2.6 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design and execution of combined-cycle, gas-fired power plant with a desalination unit. Phase 1 will have 3,000 MW of power and 200 million gpd of water.
Update: Bids for the consultancy contract have been submitted on 13 October 2009.
Package: Adwea - Fujairah IWPP 2 - Power
Owner: Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (Adwea)
Budget: $2 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design, supply, installation,
commissioning and operation of the second IWPP at Qidfa in the Emirate of Fujairah. The power plant will be gas-fired and have 2,000 MW capacity of power and 130 million gpd of water.
Update: The project is expected to be completed in June 2010.
Package: Adwea - Shuweihat IWPP S2 - Power
Owner: Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (Adwea)
Budget: $1.5 billion
Scope: The project calls for the design, engineering, procurement, financing, construction, commissioning and operation of the new IWPP in Shuweihat. It is expected to be similar to the S1 facility with a capacity of 1,600 MW and 100 million gpd of desalinated water.
