GAP-Tech, a consulting firm for process optimisation, is looking at strategic expansion plans that will facilitate custom-made solutions.

A wide span of services will support the ambitious project of this first Saudi industrial energy service company that provides technical studies, training, and basic engineering for energy and process industries.

Some of its services include: consulting services and studies for raw materials, utility chemicals, water, energy and emissions plans in process and energy industries; training, technology transfer and knowledge management, providing best practices for design and operations; software tools, design and knowledge management; turnkey process solutions and equipment sales and participation in project implementation.

According to the Dammam-based company, these products and services promote design and operations excellence leading to resource conservation, operating cost reduction, profit improvements, environmental compliance and maximum returns for capital projects.

“We emphasise on operations optimisation to utilise existing equipment and infrastructure and put forward capital investment strategies to upgrade and modernise processes and infrastructure,” says a company spokesman.
Software development is one of GAP-Tech key goals.

A recent achievement
In one of its recent achievements it helped increase the capacity of the crude distillation unit of Saudi Aramco’s Yanbu Refinery in Saudi Arabia, through a successful debottlenecking study.

Since the unit was operating beyond its capacity it had left little room for expansion. However, GAP-Tech with the help of its process optimisation tools, including pinch analysis, gauged scope for expansion and  recommended modifications to increase the capacity by more than 20 per cent. Novel technologies including twisted tube heat exchangers and variable frequency drives were incorporated into the final solution.

GAP-Tech’s role has been underscored by the need for the efficient use of energy, water and material resources that will result in greater productivity and enhanced environmental performance.

It hopes to achieve this with its technological prowess built around process integration, which involves mass, energy and time integration.

GAP-Tech aims to execute a sustainable research and development programme.
