J Ray McDermott (J Ray) is currently at work on recently awarded Saudi Aramco projects reinforcing its role in engineering, construction, procurement installation and project management services for Saudi Arabia’s offshore oil and gas developments.
For one of the contracts, the Karan Offshore Platforms and Subsea Pipelines project, J Ray will fabricate topsides and jackets weighing a total of 27,000 tonnes and utilise its new cladding facility in Jebel Ali which, with its state-of-the-art computerised vertical and horizontal cladding systems, is capable of welding high-integrity corrosion resistant alloys. J Ray will also perform all of the offshore installation work.
The project comprises four wellhead complexes each of which has a wellhead platform topside with gas, chemical injection, and controls facilities as well as a bridge-connected auxiliary platform, associated flare bridges and stacks. The four wellhead complexes are clustered around a tie-in platform with similar facilities. The project also includes intrafield pipelines as well as a 110-km trunkline to the shore and all subsea power distribution cables,” said Ed Gedeon, the company’s vice president for Middle East Projects.
J Ray’s Middle East will undertake the turnkey aspects of the project from its headquarters in Jebel Ali.
In another project recently granted under the Long-Term Agreement with Aramco, J Ray will undertake the procurement, fabrication and installation of three decks, jackets, associated pipelines and the installation of three new shallow water crude oil pipelines, totalling 15 km in length, in the South Safaniya oil field, offshore Saudi Arabia. The pipelines will divert crude oil production flow from three existing platforms to other facilities before reaching the Safaniya onshore Gas Oil Separator Plant.
“Repeat business is the reward for consistently delivering excellence on Saudi Aramco projects,” said Stewart Mitchell, vice president and general manager, J Ray McDermott Middle East and India.
The company’s first project for Saudi Aramco in the Safaniya field was in 1972 when it constructed 14 platforms and laid 77 km of pipeline.
