

The Saudi Arabian Amiantit Company (Amiantit) has announced its plans to build several production facilities at Bahrain International Investment Park (BIIP) at a total investment of BD23 million ($61 million).
The new operations will include units to manufacture glass-reinforced plastic, glass-reinforced epoxy and resin. Also to be set up are a global engineering facility and a group export office.
Announcing the projects in the presence of Bahrain’s Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro, Amiantit managing director and CEO Dr Solaiman Abdulaziz Al Twaijri said the main reasons the company chose BIIP for its new facilities were the good business climate prevailing in Bahrain, proximity to the new Khalifa Bin Salman Port and availability of skilled labour.
The Amiantit investment will create some 300 jobs with several more generated indirectly in transportation and logistics.
Amiantit’s global engineering operations are being relocated to BIIP from Dammam.
The company will construct its facilities on 60,000 sq m of land and exports will go to markets throughout the Middle East and Africa.
Amiantit employs nearly 4,000 people in 34 facilities in 17 countries. It has a marketing presence in 70 countries.
The company announced a net profit of SR235 million ($62.6 million) for 2008 against SR64 million in 2007.
Its core business activities are the manufacture and sale of pipe systems, ownership and sale of pipe technologies, provision of water management consultancy and engineering services and the manufacture and supply of polymer products.
