Reynaers Aluminium, a leading European supplier of innovative and sustainable architectural aluminium solutions, has launched Ventalis, its first self-controlled ventilation solutions for windows and doors in February 2009.
This follows an increasing demand by architects and fabricators alike for more aesthetically pleasing, yet highly efficient, ventilation systems which Reynaers says its latest solutions provide.
The new system incorporate’s controllable ventilation to ensure sufficient supplies of fresh air without losing the benefits of good insulation.
The theory behind controlled ventilation is to assist fresh oxygen-rich air to enter “damp rooms” (kitchen, bathroom, toilet, laundry room, etc) from “dry rooms” (living room, bedroom) via intermediary spaces such as halls and staircases. Normally airflow passes though wall grilles or gaps under doors. The air supply must be controlled to avoid overventilation, resulting in cold draughts, excessively dry air and energy losses. Finally the damp polluted air is discharged from “damp rooms” back into the atmosphere. With natural ventilation all of this takes place naturally due to differences in air temperature and air pressure.
Adjustable intake openings
The Reynaers system features self-regulating elements that are installed at the top of windows or doors in the “dry rooms”. These can be built in different configurations depending on the aesthetics or the required airflow to satisfy the applicable regulations.
The patented (pending) self-regulating units automatically open and close the air inlet when wind pressure increases or decreases, keeping the incoming airflow constant
The ventilation flap can be opened in five different positions.
Reynaers said ease of fabrication was one of the most attractive features of the system. The ventilation units are simply placed in spaces between the ventilation profile and the window frame. The required amount of airflow will determine the number of ventilation units needed for each application.
Ventalis can be fixed properly on all sides due to its stronger, stable frame. Adding Ventalis does not change the way of glazing, therefore it is not necessary to use a thicker, more expensive glass pane, says Reynaers.
The ventilation profiles are fully compatible with Reynaers’ range of window systems, (starting with the ECO, CS68 and CS77).
