Metito, the UAE-based international water desalination and wastewater treatment specialist, has said its water demineralisation technology is helping six power plants at various locations across Egypt to generate electricity.
The combined power capacity of the six plants is 8,050 MW daily and Metito’s project value is in excess of $54 million treating over 30,000 cu m of water per day. Five of these plants leverage local water sources. The River Nile is the source for the high-purity water treatment plants and the post-treated water is repatriated to the Nile with a quality meeting and exceeding local environmental regulations, Metito said.
Metito has provided the plants with user-friendly control systems, making it easy for the operators to monitor and control all operations.
“The Egyptian economy is growing at a rapid pace and the country’s electricity needs are increasing simultaneously,” said Karim Madwar, managing director, Metito Egypt. “Metito is proud to help augment power production using our cutting-edge water demineralisation techniques.”
Founded in 1958 Metito operates locally in 14 countries of the Arab and Islamic World, and supplies its plants internationally to locations as far apart as Argentina and Australia from its UAE base. Some of the company’s notable recent achievements in the power industry include supplying high-purity water systems to the Sadaf plant in Saudi Arabia, Umm Al Nar and Jebel Ali plants in the UAE, Tengiz in Kazakhstan, Asam Asam in Indonesia and South Bangkok Power plant in Thailand.
