An overview of Ducab’s plant in Jebel Ali

Ducab, among the oldest companies in Jebel Ali, will complete next year its supplies to two iconic projects, the Dubai Metro and Burj Dubai.

The company has also been contracted by Aldar to supply cables for the $20 billion Al Raha beach development in Abu Dhabi, which will be ready in 2015.
In recent months, Ducab completed supplies to major projects including Palm Jumeirah, The Palm Atlantis Hotel & Resort, the Dubai Mall, the Bahrain Financial Centre and Mall of the Emirates.
For Dubai Metro, its supply scope embraces a range of BS mica tape armoured cables, XLPE insulated armoured cables, earthing cables and wires, LSF (low-smoke, low-fumes) armoured cables and XL-LSF insulated earthing wires.
The cables ordered are of various sizes ranging from single to multicore cables of various cross-sectional areas.
Ducab and its distributors have an agreement with ETA to supply cables worth Dh85 million ($23.1 million) to Dh100 million for the metro. ETA is the MEP contractor for all stations.
Ducab has been dealing with ETA for more than eight years and has rate contracts with each contract ranging from Dh20 to 60 million with validity of at least a year.
“Each year the business with ETA has been increasing and by year’s end we expect business to be worth Dh200 million with the contractor,” said Ducab.
Involvements with ETA include Burj Dubai, Delhi Metro, Mirdiff City Centre, Dubai Marina Mall, Business Bay, Jebel Ali Airport, Sports City, Taj Exotica in Palm Crescent and several towers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi
For Burj Dubai, Ducab has so far supplied cables and wires worth about Dh15 million over the last three to four years. Almost all the cabling and wiring is over.
The consortium of ETA-Hitachi-Voltas is the MEP contractor for Burj Dubai and the majority of power cables and wires Ducab supplied so far is LSF type (low smoke and fume).
UAE projects that Ducab supplied over the years included Emirates Towers, Dubai International Airport, Burjuman, Etisalat Building (all in Dubai), Emirates Palace Hotel (Abu Dhabi) and Sahara Shopping Mall (Sharjah)
In Qatar, the company’s products went into the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Doha Sheraton Conference Hall, Lulu Centre, RasGas and Dasman Hypermarket. Supplies are ongoing at the Royal Plaza.
Other notable Gulf projects that Ducab supplied to are the Central Bank of Oman, American International School, Al Manah Power Station and Sur Hospital (all in Oman); Kuwait Oil Company and Kuwait National Petroleum Company (both Kuwait)
In Bahrain, as well as Bahrain Financial Harbour, Ducab has supplied its products to Shaikh Khalifa Port at Hidd- Phase 2,  the Arabian Ship Repair Yard (Asry), Bahrain International Circuit FI Grand Prix, Ritz Carlton Hotel and Spa, Alba Potline-4 expansion, Bahrain World Trade Centre, Bapco low sulphur diesel project, Hidd desalination plant and Al Areen Deserts Spa and Resort.
The Bahrain supplies also include the Kraft cheese plant, Bahrain City Centre, Delmon Water Park and Banyan Tree Resort, Toyota Plaza, Riffa Sports Club, Al Shabab Sports Club, Abraj Al Lulu Pearl Tower, Marriott Executive Apartments, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce HO Towers and several Ministry of Electricity and Water projects.
In addition to the Delhi Metro, projects beyond this region that Ducab completed include the Public Utility Board (Singapore), the HSBC corporate office and the ICC Tower (Hong Kong).

Products
With one of the longest CCV lines in the world for the manufacture of 11 kV and 33 kV medium voltage cables at the Jebel Ali factory, Ducab incorporates the very latest in production machinery and testing equipment.
It supplies high-quality cables to the GCC and regional markets from its original manufacturing facility in the Jebel Ali. The range of cables supplied by Ducab include high voltage cables, Ducab Powerplus medium voltage cables, low voltage cables, wiring cables, instrumentation cables, control and auxiliary cables and lead-sheathed cables.
In 2008 Ducab pushed its boundaries further with the launch of a new range of fire resistant cables that generates no toxic or acidic fumes – the Ducab  FR (Fire Resistant) low-smoke low-fume cables. The new cables are designed for high-rise buildings and survive longer in the event of a fire, a vital issue in reducing smoke-inhalation deaths and an important consideration in the context of the numerous fire incidents that have taken place in the UAE in the past few years.
Ducab produces more than 200,000 tonnes of cables per year at its Dubai and Abu Dhabi factories.

Ducab has one of the lowest employee turnover rates in the region. The company has a multicultural working environment with employees from more than 20 countries. In addition, it has embarked on a structured programme of employing locals and to date they employ 64 Emiratis including 48 men and 16 women. The company has more than 1,000 employees.
