
GE to service Qatalum turbines
GE, which will be supplying four GE 9FA-class gas turbines to Qatar’s Qatalum power plant in a consortium with Doosan Heavy Industries, recently announced it had signed a 16-year contractual services agreement (CSA) to supply a full range of services for the turbines.
The power plant will generate approximately 1,350 megawatts of power for the aluminium production facility.
Once completed, Qatalum will have the capacity to produce 585,000 tonnes of high-quality aluminum products for the export market.
JV launched
Petrofac Limited, an oil and gas facilities service provider, and Mubadala Petroleum Services Company, have announced plans to establish a joint venture company to further diversify the region’s energy sector.
Abu Dhabi-based Petrofac Emirates said it would begin operations by the end of January and provide a full range of engineering, design, procurement and construction services for onshore oil and gas, refining and petrochemical projects throughout the UAE.
New firm at DuBiotech
Merck Serono Middle East has opened a new regional office at the Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park (DuBiotech).
Merck Serono is a division of Merck KGaA, the German pharmaceutical and chemical company with operations in 61 countries across the world.
The new 700 sq m regional office will accommodate 40 employees and cater to Merck Serono’s operations in the Middle and Near East
Merck Serono’s major pharma products include Glucophage, a treatment for patients with type-2 diabetes; Erbitux, a targeted therapy for the treatment of colorectal and head and neck cancers; and Rebif, a disease-modifying drug used to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis.
