Bosch has introduced this year a new generation of products bearing the BruteTough name.
The company also introduced two new sanders incorporating significant refinements to just about every detail associated with a palm-grip random orbit sander, putting them at the forefront of the important and growing sander category.
Built around Bosch’s jobsite proven BlueCore Ni-Cad battery platform, the second-generation BruteTough products illustrate the company’s continuing commitment to producing top-notch products specifically designed to meet the needs of end-users.
“BruteTough isn’t just a brand name for Bosch,” says product manager Andrew Cho. “To earn the BruteTough label, a cordless tool has to be tougher, faster, longer lasting. This is a distinction we take very seriously.”
The new Bosch BruteTough lineup features tools purpose-built not only to outperform their predecessors, but also to outperform the competition, a company spokesman said.
“The 15618 18 V BruteTough hammer drill/driver, for example, runs 500 RPM faster, delivers 50 in/lbs more torque and offers a two-times increase in BPM compared to the Bosch 13618-2G it replaces.
“Compared to the competition, Bosch’s 15618 drills up to 35 per cent faster in wood and up to 63 per cent faster in masonry, concrete and sheet metal – all while the patented BlueCore battery pack gives users up to 89 per cent more run time. The other three tools in the BruteTough family deliver similar class-by-class comparisons.
“The heart of the BruteTough story has always been in the engineering, and Bosch’s exemplary design standards remain at the forefront on the second-generation tools.”
According to the spokesman, all metal planetary gears withstand even the most rigorous real-world operating conditions.
“Unibody construction maintains alignment between clutch, gear train and motor for the most durable drivetrain system on the market. Bosch’s well-known DuraShield housing, combined with an intelligently designed battery-to-tool interface and a new metal collar around the chuck assembly, ensure that these tools – like their predecessors – can withstand real-world punishment and continue to deliver trouble-free service.”
Additional performance enhancing features include a new half-inch metal chuck design that provides a 25 per cent increase in grip force. The Bosch BruteTough family of cordless hammer drills and drill drivers was first launched in 2002.
Random orbit sanders
The Bosch ROS20VS and the ROS10 are designed for the use of exacting finish carpenters, cabinet makers and woodworkers. The optimised combination of pad orbit and rotation delivers fast removal and a well-blended, ultra-smooth finish. Bosch’s integral pad dampening system, a pad braking system, is designed to eliminate the most common complaint of random orbit sander users – swirl marks on the workpiece. Finish quality is further enhanced with the use of a soft microcellular backing pad. The pliable pad ensures a smooth, fine finish on flat or contoured surfaces.
Both sanders are designed to deliver years of trouble-free operation. The ROS20VS and the ROS10 are built around a sturdy 2.2 amp motor to provide significant power, consistent speed, and long life in almost any sanding environment.
And Bosch’s new HookTight disc attachment system firmly grips standard hook-and-loop sanding discs over extended periods.
HookTight’s 35,000 long-life hooks (up to 2X the standard number of hooks) are shorter and have a special gripping geometry. This makes it difficult for dust to get between the disc and the hooks and weaken the grip. In addition, HookTight hooks are made to withstand high temperatures better than standard hooks, resulting in a dramatic improvement in the life of the backing pad.
