Expansion of the product range, recruitment of additional staff and investment in upgrading systems and communications are putting MH Sherbiny for Commerce (MHSC) on track to meet the growing demand in Saudi Arabia for the kind of products and services it offers, a senior company official says.

Sales and marketing manager Abdulaziz Mohammed Sherbiny said the company was granted agencies by seven new firms during the past year representing a wide range of products including ones with very critical applications in the oil and gas and petrochemical industries.
“The reason for having new agencies was to complete our existing product range and provide our customers with more high-quality products to meet their applications. This enabled us to provide more solutions to our customers’ problems as well as increase our market profit and share,” Sherbiny commented.
“On the service side, we are constantly upgrading our service centre with new skilled technicians and engineers as well as adding more tools and machinery to increase our work capacity and range of services. For example, in the past year we added new cutting and bending machines for the purpose of fabricating new instrumentation panels and other panels used for different applications.”
The 22,000 sq ft service centre carries out after-sales activities such as installation, commissioning, supervision and repairs.
A separate division within the company handles all shipments and distribution activities. The unit is connected to the company’s stores and a system is in place to monitor all shipments delivered to the warehouse. All items are scanned as thy come in or leave the stores and there is automatic updating in the server connected to the shipping and traffic division at headquarters. This ensures maximum efficiency, the company says.
MH Sherbiny for Commerce is the highest revenue earner among four companies constituting the Sherbiny Group.  It has been maintaining a healthy growth average of 25 to 40 per cent annually and in 2007 it registered a turnover of over $40 million, according to Sherbiny. “We are expecting a very successful year in 2008 with a forecasted turnover of $50 million,” he said.
The official attributed recent progress and optimism to the execution of large projects in the kingdom including the building of new plants and upgrades to existing ones and the existence of high demand for industrial process equipment such as pumps and control instruments.
In fact some of MHSC’s fastest-selling products are pumps. Among the highest revenue-earning products were centrifugal pumps, dosing pumps, gas compressors, chemical injection skids and gas detection and control systems.
Most of the contracts MHSC won were for projects launched by Saudi Aramco and Sabic. The company supplied them process equipment including pumps and compressors and instrumentation products.
The company actively partici-pates in exhibitions in Saudi Arabia and other GCC states. It was an exhibitor at the Gulf Industry Fair in Bahrain earlier this year and will participate in the eighth Sabic Technical Meeting (STM-8) in Jubail in April.
Sherbiny recalled that the company had received several commendations from its principals including awards for “outstanding sales performance” and “Number One representative in the Middle East.” It was also proud of the many testimonials it had received from its customers who were happy about the quality of the products it supplied and about deliveries made on schedule.
One of the high points in MHSC’s operations was the sale to oil giant Saudi Aramco of 22 Aurora units manufactured by Magnetrol in what was the largest Aurora order in the Middle East. The order was won “after many trials and communications back and forth,” said Sherbiny.  “We received much praise from our supplier for the order as well as praise from our customer Saudi Aramco for supplying such high-quality materials.”
According to Magnetrol, “Aurora combines the operation of a conventional float-operated magnetic level indicator with the leading-edge technology of Guided Wave Radar. The result is a true level measurement redundancy in a single three-inch or four-inch chamber design. The Aurora is a completely self-contained unit for side mounting to a tank or vessel with threaded or flanged pipe connections.”
