Amana Contracting and Steel Buildings, one of the leaders in the design, construction, and commissioning of commercial and industrial buildings across the Middle East, has grown from strength to strength in its operations in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.

According to Bahaa Harb, general manager of Amana Abu Dhabi, the company has made a mark for itself with some iconic projects in Abu Dhabi, completing over 350 strategic projects within 14 years of its operations in the Emirate. The company is currently playing a pivotal role in Abu Dhabi, spearheading numerous projects in strategic sectors.
Established in 1993, Amana is now the regional leader in the design-build of industrial and commercial facilities, with over 1,500 buildings constructed across the region, with vast experience across all the leading sectors in the Gulf.
The company today boasts 120-plus staff and more than 1,400 skilled workers in Abu Dhabi alone. With over 7,000 employees across seven countries, the company’s regional presence enables it to tap into a wide talent base while maintaining the speed and responsiveness of a local company.
In Abu Dhabi, Amana has provided comprehensive design-build solutions to various industrial, commercial and institutional projects, backed by its in-house capabilities to develop a project from conception through construction until completion. Its major focus, though, has been in the oil and gas sector followed by the manufacturing sector.
Among some of the key projects undertaken and handed over by Amana is the design-build project, The Petroleum Institute for Adnoc at Sas Al Nakhl, which spreads over a built-up area of 18,800 sq m. The project was completed in February 2007. The company also successfully completed the Middle East Training Centre for Schlumberger at Al Shawamekh, a turnkey project spread across a built-up area of nearly 18,000 sq m.
Other prominent projects undertaken and completed by Amana include the 20,000-tonne cold storage facility for the Public Works Department at Mina Zayed (16,000 sq m), Petroleum Institute Support Facilities for Adnoc at Sas Al Nakhl (12,500 sq m), a paper mill for Abu Dhabi National Industrial Projects at Musaffah (9,000 sq m), the landmark pharmaceutical plant for Neopharma at Musaffah (9,000 sq m) and the Tufted Carpet manufacturing plant for Abu Dhabi National Industrial Projects at Musaffah (9,000 sq m). The company also built the warehouses for Abu Dhabi Oilfield Services at Musaffah (8,000 sq m).
Amana is currently constructing the International Petroleum Institute High School for Adnoc at Sas Al Nakhl (30,000 sq m), the Technical Institute project for Adnoc at Al Shawamekh (12,300 sq m) and the Well Services Operational base for Dowell Schlumberger at Industrial City Abu Dhabi (ICAD II) (11,000 sq m).
“Amana Contracting’s impressive portfolio in Abu Dhabi reflects our proven expertise and prompt delivery of prestigious projects. We have ambitious plans in place aimed at upcoming developmental projects in the emirate and we intend to play a pivotal role in the ongoing development of Abu Dhabi,” Harb says.
