The new SCRF test facility

As part of its continued investment in services for the global pipeline industry, Bodycote Testing Group has unveiled a new facility dedicated to Steel Catenary Riser Fatigue (SCRF) Testing at Daventry in the UK.

Edinburgh-based Bodycote Testing Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bodycote International plc, a UK-based public company, has been offering component fatigue and fracture mechanics at Daventry since 1964, but the opening of the new dedicated SCRF facility at a site designated for this testing will meet demand for increased support in the area of component and specialist testing for the oil and gas subsea, deepwater and pipeline sectors. The SCRF facility capable of handling resonance fatigue testing of 2-inch to 20-inch diameter pipes will allow Bodycote Testing to expand its testing services to the subsea, umbilical riser and flow line ‘Surf’ sectors.
The group services the international pipeline industry via strategically located facilities in Scotland, England, Norway, Holland, Italy, Houston, Alberta, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Qatar and Singapore and is actively examining the potential to extend coverage in the Middle East, South America and Caspian regions in support of global clients.
Specialist services offered include testing of polymers and coatings, fracture toughness, components, SCRF, engineering critical assessments, CWPT and sour service corrosion testing in addition to mechanical testing, metallurgical examination (lab and site based) and failure investigation.
In response to massive investment being made in the Middle East, Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) and Bodycote Testing Group signed a contract recently to set up and operate the first fire testing laboratory to serve the GCC and wider region. Based in Dubai, the laboratory is part of a Centre of Excellence for fire safety and prevention.
